You tend to do this. Why the deflection? We're not discussing the Flames. We're talking about the Canucks defense. It looks awful. Can we discuss it without deflecting to some comment about the Flames?

Let's dig up the thread and see how many times you Van fans told us that you got him for way less than he was worth - a gift.

I don't think it looks "Awful". It looks like a lot of questions marks to me.
It certainly has the potential to be awful though. A lot of potential...

It's awful to me because a good defense should be decent defensively.
OEL, Myers, Hughes are bad defensively, and that's being kind.
Rathbone, Joulevi and Montour (if he even signs there) are question marks. Schenn is not good.

that's fair, (montour re-signed with Fla )
we'll see what else JB has up his sleeves via trade or free agency to find a shutdown D.
Shenn is a decent depth defenceman, he does well when paired with a puck mover.

As a Flames fan, I can hardly wait. Dim Jim did a stellar job building a competitive team last season, and so far he is killing it this summer.

Barca disappears for months and now posts constantly to defend Benning's ridiculous moves
He bought out a player he signed 10 months ago (NHL record) and traded for a player he acquired 10 months ago....just today
Oh, and his team was dead last and hasn't picked in the first round for 2 years

LOL nope. Ekman-Larsson is a left D. He can barely play that position, much less switching him sides.
More likley something to the effect of,
Hughes - Hamonic
Ekman-Larsson - Myers
Rathbone - Schenn
Juolevi
Good luck!

... By the way, in case you thought this actually helped the Canucks with cap space, I did the math. If you assume 7.5M for Pettersson, 6.5M for Hughes, 2.8M for Dickinson and 1M for Juolevi, and play all the cheap kids they have on ELCs in the bottom half of their lineup (MacEwan, Lockwood, Gadjovich etc), they have just under $5M in cap space with 21 players on the roster, and still need a first pairing RD and a third pairing RD.
Again... good luck!

I dont think hughes is bad, but he needs a defensive partner because of the risks he takes and the fact hes playing against top guys. But his breakouts alone are a huge benefit defensively
It's why he and tanev were so good, and why with hamonic his numbers stabilized even with the team in covid hell.
He cant play with OEL or Myers next year, unless they are chasing in the 3rd
He needs a stay at home partner who is good down low. Hamonic or Schenn are both decent options for that. They dont need to break the bank in anyway for his partner

Like I said above, they dont really need a 1st pairing right d in terms of money because of highes. They need a defensive right sided d
5 million for the two d they need isnt a big gap, they probably sign one for around 3.5m and another for the rest is my guess
Does that money include ferlands ltir?
