If it was a steal Dim Jim should have been able to get more for him.
Also, he is way better than OEL. You've been Benning-ed

And they already had the worst top 4 defence in the entire league last year.

Shenn is coming as 6th/7th
I heard Montour mentioned SPN650.
Hughes - Ekman-Larsson
Rathbone - Montour
Juolevi - Myers
Shenn

Another good move for the Jets.
If the Oilers had acquired Dillon and Schmidt in the span of five days, I’d be worried.

I had hoped Schmidt and the Canucks would manage to work through this. Sad they didn't. Okay that they didn't get less than they gave up.
About the only way we're not in big trouble on the back end next season is there's a UFA in the weeds I'm not considering and Demko stands on his head.
Rathbone will be fine, but he isn't a defense first d-man. Neither is Hughes. Or OEL. Or Myers. And Schenn skates like he's in quicksand (even if I love how angry he is)

I'd like to see the Canucks re-sign Edler now and have Barca defend it.

It wouldn't be too hard.
Guy played the hardest minutes at the end of the last season. While he certainly looked slower, putting him with a guy like Rathbone to let Rathbone go do Rathbone things isn't a bad idea. It'd be Edler or Hamonic though, not both.
As an aside, Vancouver media are hinting at the big disconnect between Schmidt and the Canucks being the fact Schmidt wants to be counted on offensively and see PP time. Quinn Hughes and the Canucks 4F 1D PP set up meant that was never going to be a real possibility.

Yes, but they still should have been able to get way more than a 3rd for him

The Knights actually should have been able to get more than a 3rd. But they painted themselves into a corner with UFA signings and had to shed salary, and everyone else in the league knew it.
