There’s being optimistic and there is sticking your head in the sand. It’s an awfully fair concern to bring up and no way should that be out of bounds. Some folks need a thicker skin.

Some folks are tired of literally everything being bad news.
It's no fun.

It should be the first question and really the only relevant one
Everyone’s already heard what’s to like about his skill set. We want to know if Brad got specific assurance this kid isn’t staying in college for four years and is willing to sign in Canada
Besides that, really like the player at 13

It's too early. This is something that is not a concern for at the bare minimum one year. Worry about it twelve months from now.

Kerfoot, Vesey, Fox, Marino. It’s not that some Harvard players choose to go free agency... it’s that MOST Harvard players go this route
|
these guys weren't first rounders though. I'm not saying the concern is absolutely baseless and I get the appeal of a Harvard education (believe me I get it) but 4 years is a long time to defer the NHL for a first rounder if they are progressing as a player

I absolutely prefer this pick to one of the goalies. I think the concern is justified but if this kid takes off he likely will be too good to not sign after 1-2 years.

That's the key - the financial consequences of him playing out the 4 years are simply too severe.

Does it matter where you are drafted or is it more based on how good you are when signing? Guys like Gaudreau and Fox had trended up. Their draft position just didn’t matter.
Gaudreau was happy to sign, burn a year and start playing.
Fox not so much.
Does it matter where you’re going to school? Maybe. I don’t have the stats on Harvard players that leave early to turn pro. I’m only aware of one.

If they are good, they will get paid no matter who drafts them. Had nothing to do with where he goes to school.
It has everything to do with drafting a player that has the ability to decide to play 4 years of NCAA hockey and not sign with the town that drafts them. Small risk but a risk that didn't need to happen.

Dont mix negativity with concern, they're 2 completely different things but often confused for one another.
Just because you don't like or don't agree with the point of someone else doesn't mean its negative. There's been a plethora of Harvard bound draft picks who end up using the 4 years and signing with a different team, its not like its completely out of left field.
Were not being negative, some of us are just concerned that's all.
Like the pick, fits a need big time but concerned for obvious reasons.

Wake up from a nap to see we got Coronato and check the thread to confirm what I already expected: negative nancies dropping wet blankets on what is supposed to be a fun day for fans. Im taking a break from this place.

As with every mid round draft pick I have no idea how this kid will develop. Or for that matter most top 10 picks. Fingers crossed, and I hope the "loophole" is not a factor.

I'm sorry, who was it that hired a racist Head Coach named Bill Peters who disgraced the organization? That whole situation could have been avoided with the most MINIMAL amount of "research" before the hire was made. This franchise is a joke, and will continue to be as long as fans keep making excuses for our terrible management. One playoff round win in the last seventeen years says it all.

Let’s just be happy the organization went out and drafted for skill, a right handed winger who will be lethal on the PP. This was a huge organizational need.

Definitely something to build on.

I just don't like pessimists. You make life worse for those around you and then when you turn out to be wrong it's swell because things are better than you thought, but you've spent your time spreading negativity to everyone around you.
Anyways, Coronato is a stud. Can't wait to watch him tear it up in the NCAA and bring some skill to the Flames.
