That’s my point! Everything is worse than I thought and nothing else matters.

I don’t think I’m smarter than a hockey ops staff but this was a huge risk and an unnecessary one IMO
The goalie carried less inherent risk FFS
Can someone post the video of him being disappointed by being drafted by us so I can calm down.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks.

Disagree. The Harvard loophole is a huge concern. The very first question directed at Brad needs to be whether they got specific assurance he would sign before four years
Kerfoot, Vesey, Fox, Marino. It’s not that some Harvard players choose to go free agency... it’s that MOST Harvard players go this route

Sutter was savvy as a GM. Makes sense, lets be honest CGY inst a desirable destination esp for Americans. All the loophole talk after losing Fox is warranted and will continue until the day he is signed or ultimately traded.

If someone in the media doesn’t ask Tree about the whole signing thing as to whether or not it was a point of discussion during interviews, I’ll pose it as a question at a STH event if given the chance.

Thing is, this draft is very heavy at the top with American and/or NCAA prospects. There was a good chance one would land in Calgary.
I don't feel great about it, but BPA... always in my opinion. As long as they don't leave it long. If they can't sign him by year 2, then trade him. That leaves enough time on the table that there will still be a lot of value. If you can't sign him by then, the flight risk becomes too big and the value will start to fall.

So much negativity in this thread. And that's why we can't have nice things.

as best I can tell, in the last 15 years Flames first round forwards that played in the minors were Nemisz (who just plain sucked), Jankowski, Baertschi and Backlund (for one season). everything about the Jankowski pick was just weird but Backlund and Baertschi were both getting NHL chances early on

People are really incredulous that some posters are worried about the signability of a player who committed to Harvard?
There’s being optimistic and there is sticking your head in the sand. It’s an awfully fair concern to bring up and no way should that be out of bounds. Some folks need a thicker skin.

NHL comparables for Coranato from various scouting websites and publications: Point, DeBrincat, Guentzel, Palmieri, Hyman. Take it for what you will.

Ugh. The Jankowski law is now going to be the Coronato Loophole law.

Once again, post the list of first round picks who have used it. If they are good they are going to want to get paid.

I really hope he sticks around the flames but my belief he will do so is incredibly low
