Athletic trade grades are in and they're exactly what you'd expect:

... Yup. Also some fun stats from Dom:
Quote:
Despite facing the fifth-toughest competition on Arizona’s blue line last year, Ekman-Larsson put up a 41 percent expected goals percentage and 38 percent actual goals percentage. Relative to teammates, he hasn’t been positive in either regard in any of the last three seasons and last year ranked third last in expected goals and 10th last in actual goals. [...] This is an unmitigated disaster for the Canucks’ long-term outlook, which is a consistent trend for this brain trust that is always putting band-aids on problems they themselves created.
|
... That's third last NHL-wide. Holy God.

More likely by committee, Vancouver isn't a team with a pairing that'll eat 25 mins a night

Petterson and Hughes will cost $7M each minimum. Those 2 other dman and 2 other forwards will be minimum players.

Dickinson might be decent defensively though has 4th line output. Podkolzin has never played in the league, and Pearson is a meh complimentary player that can shoot... when he's paired with skilled players.
I'm supposed to believe because of the word of a ra ra optimist that that trio is a playoff third line? Alright.
At least if you said top six i wouldn't dispute that. But the Canucks bottom six looks to continue to be a weak point.
At least its not as bad as the Oilers!

Ironically, at a time when we are in the greatest need of a top 4 defenseman in years.
(not saying we should have gone after one of them, jus that we need a Dman)

I think the Canucks got better today... but if they just would have waited one more season!!
Whew! Just when I thought that the Canucks were about to have a chance to become good, they pull themselves back in!
It isn't terrible, but I don't see the need to give up the 9th overall pick just to get out of these deals, when it is looking like a non-contending team anyway.

I don't know how you can look at
Roussel - Sutter - Hawryluk
and say
Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin
the bottom 6 continues to be a weak point.

lots of interest in Schmidt and Holtby and a Virtanen buyout on Monday.
apparently we're interested in McCabe.

More importantly what is their record of getting it right with their grades, awesome to speculate and predict this will suck for Vancouver, also might work out in the Canucks favour, regardless of what side the majority is on, it sometimes doesn't work out the way the the "experts" think.
All this talk of Vancouver having garbage defense, do the flames finish better than them?

Do you blindly defend everything Canucks?
This was a brutal trade for them but at least you have 7 years to admit it.

Precisely my friend.
Waiting would've paid off massively for them. And they only had to wait one year to gain flexibility, options, and the ability to extend their guys without sacrifice.
Instead they nuke themselves with dead cap long term just to get Garland in there right away. Despite not being in a position to compete tomorrow or anything.

I doubt anyone takes Schmidt or Holtby without retention or a bad contract attached.

And I think I am getting sexier as I creep ever closer to 50.
I also think that by week-two of the 2021 hockey season you will once again be curiously, bafflingly absent from these parts.

Oh I can look at it and call it a weak point,
Seven days a week and twice on Sunday.
