Although OEL is trending down, I think he gets a lot less exposed on Vancouver, they don't need him to play 22-25 mins a night. If he plays like Edler of 3-4 years ago I think Vancouver is okay with that

apparently Canuck players are excited with this deal.

rag on JB all you want, he did exactly what he said he would do. Acquire a 3rd line center (Dickinson) top 6 forward (Garland) and a top 4 defenceman in OEL.

The Canucks are also moving Holtby and Schmidt and a possible Virtanen buyout to create more cap space too.

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser
Hoglander - Horvat - Garland
Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin
Motte - Highmore - MacEwen

Hughes - OEL
Rathbone - Myers
Juolevi - Hamonic??

that is a solid lineup SO FAR, JB is not done yet.
A dman who could easily bounce back?

I can be convinced that OEL might be better in Vancouver than Arizona, but you are hoping a 30+ player will bounce back after 3 really bad seasons.

At best you'll get a 1 year dead cat bounce.

And that's a terrible defensive dman core.

If that's the way it works sure.

But what if OEL just declines as he has for the next six years.

You could have been out of jail in 11 months, selected 9th this year, and had your second rounder next year.

He wasnt bad last year, he was a top 4 d man, his counting stats went down because he didnt get pp time
I would keep him, the Canucks have 22.3 million to sign Hughes, Pettersson, Garland along with 2 more dmen and 2 more forwards.

I think that was likely Scott Wheeler from TheAthletic and not Bader, as I know Wheeler (or maybe it's Pronman) uses that language in their prospect rankings

Who is playing those tough minutes then?

Hughes? Myers? C'mon.

I think he will be rejuvenated.

he has Petey, Miller, Bo, Garland, Boeser, Hughes, Pod to play with.

Who are: Michael Rasmussen, Mikhail Sergachev, Timo Meier, Nick Ehlers, Bo Horvat, Dougie Hamilton, Jacob Trouba, Michael Granlund, Josh Bailey, Logan Couture?

Why, they are the 9th overall picks between 2007-2017.

I will always rely on the blind hope of "could easily bounce back" whenever the Flames acquire or have a player who has slid backwards... but it's still funny to hear other fans use it as justification.

They took on a few short-term bad contracts, added a really interesting player in Gostisbehere, retained $1m on the awful OEL deal they desperately needed to move, traded a guy in Garland who was at odds on a contract...

... And added a flat-out ridiculous number of draft picks.
And this should guide them to a high chance at #1 overall next year.

At the cost of 9th overall, 2nd rounder, 7th rounder and 7 million tied up for 6 years.

Congrats on upgrading to NHL players. If only you were anywhere near a Garland away from doing anything meaningful.

Looking forward to watching the tire fires to the north and west of us long term.

the 9th doesn't help us right now though? at some point you gotta make the next step. We have our young core set, the Canucks are surrounding them with good players.

Minuscule maybe the wrong word, but garland is really good

If he wasnt in arizona he would be very well known

https://theathletic.com/1798463/2020...-a-draft-pick/

That has the 9th pick as worth 6.3 gsva

Garland is projected to be much higher
