This is a player I like Treliving targeting. Gives more flexibility in the top 6, or maybe a Coleman-Backlund-Pitlick line that should be a great 2-way line.
UFA money always scares me though. Coleman at 1million a season for 3 years is 'best deal in the NHL' type of signing, and 10 million a season for 7 years is 'worst contract in the league', so I will wait until then to decide. I like him a lot, and expecting the UFA premium, so I am definitely expecting somewhere between 4 (like it) to 6 (don't like it) over 3-5 years. I bet it is 5 years.
Ritchie - Pitlick - Coleman = the beginnings of a team that is harder to play against, but still skates well and and has some skill.

Still messing around with the bottom 6. I get we need to do that because the majority of them will be gone.
But I sure hope they are working on the top 6 behind the scenes.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I think if they are getting Coleman, at the price he will command, they aren't getting him for a bottom 6 role. He's a LHS but this would be 2RW

FWIW, Coleman played on a line with Gaudreau and Kane at the 2018 World Championships.
P.S. Not suggesting Coleman gets elevated to the top line, but just saying there could be some familiarity there.

Anything under 5x5 is probably good value.

I agree. He might be a third liner on the Lightning, but I think he starts in the top 6 here.

There was the rumoured hockey trade when both Hall and Coleman were moved prior to the deadline in the 19-20 season (Hall went to Arizona, Coleman to Tampa)
Rumour was something around Hanifin+Bennett for Hall+Coleman if I'm not mistaken.

I like Coleman but I anticipate we'll give him a contract that will price him above his overall effectiveness.

ah yes. I think you are right.
And here is one of the rumors at the time (not vouching for the quality of the source at all)
https://www.nhltraderumors.me/2019/0...ew-jersey.html
But it would show some ongoing interest.

He's a good player and I would be happy to see him on the Flames, but depending on the term, it could be a risky contract. He is probably going for his last big pay day for his career.

I like Coleman. And I get the value in trading a likely useless pick to get signing rights. I sometimes think that making that trade puts you in a weak bargaining position on the contract. Once. you've traded the asset to get signing rights the player knows you are probably paying his asking price, rather than seeing him go UFA.

Coleman and Backlund would make for a really strong pair on a line. Or Lindholm for that matter.

If true this is great.
Like this guys jam and is a Sutter type player. Hoping guys want to play for Sutter more and in Calgarys market.
This guy stood out in the playoffs and that buzzer beatrr goal he scored was unbelievable.

Big fan of Coleman, hope it's a reasonable deal. That's a guy I could see Sutter really liking.

If the Flames do sign him, I expect to hate the contract right away. Hopefully it turns out to be a Tanev situation.

If this is true does it mean we are shipping a pick to Tampa to sign him early?

Interesting...
These type of pickups work amazing when a strong contender is able to slot them 'down' in their lineup to bolster depth.
Where it becomes problematic is when bad/avg teams sign these folks and hope they can play 'up' in the lineup. This is a terrific idea, if the player is still young enough where they are still in the upward trend of their growth trajectory. However, at 30 (think Coleman is around that age), he is what he is, and there should be an assumed downward trend baked in...
Given what Goodrow got out of NYR, the deal size is likely still greater for Coleman.
it's fun and exciting to hear about a good player coming here, however, at the same time, just feels like further wheel spinning at this point of the team building exercise from this org.
