You don't think, if the flames decided to trade Gaudreau, we would be able to get a promising younger guy?
Maybe not an established 1st liner, but not even a promising younger player?

Sounds like they couldn’t swing a Konecny deal. And for non-Philly teams, I think they’d have to have the same worries about contract status as we do.

He is terrible defensively yes, but it screws them up further since they basically have no defenseman right now. Nurse/ 38 year old Keith and a couple tweeners.

If I'm Barrie, there is no way I'm not checking out free agency. He gambled with his deal last year and won. That was the whole point, to leverage the points to a better deal, no Tyson?
Not like he was their first choice anyway. See what's out there.

I wonder if this theory of players signing a one-year deal with the oilers to play with McDavid, put up points, and then get a big money contract after that doesn’t work out as well as players think it should. Any competent GM could look at Barrie’s numbers and know how much of it was due to McDavid. It would be one thing if he added some defensive element to his game but he didn’t… I think he’s evaluated the same way now as he was last year - an offensive defenseman with little to no defensive IQ.

Looking at Twitter sounds like the Flyers are in the mix for Reinhart (NRD)

Orrrrrrr get Voracek to play with Gaudreau (and they can do breakaways together). Trade Monahan plus more
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Voracek
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane
Lucic-Dube-Pitlick
Pelletier-Ruzicka-Ritchie
ETA: The Gaudreau trade is if he won’t sign an extension.

Gaudreau’s value is way higher than Vorachek.
Vorachek went unclaimed in the expansion draft.
Johnny would have been gobbled up.
Vorachek is still decent, but due to his continuing cap hit, likely has negative value.

Voracek seems like he might be not bad for us on RW salary aside? Maybe something like the Gosthisbere deal where they send us the player and retain some salary for nothing?

I don’t think the Flyers offload Voracek for mid-round picks, and if someone got them to agree to that they certainly won’t retain any salary.

It might be one or the other but not both. Likely the latter (retention).

Maybe they should go full ham and trade for Eichel and then trade a center for Buchnevich.

The expansion draft - it’s clear the Kraken had an agenda to stay away from AAV. Aside from Gio’s expiring deal and a very few others, they just didn’t want bog contracts, even for decent players (Neidereiter, Price, Henrique, Domi, Zucker, etc.). So I don’t read a whole lot into that.
Voracek has value at a retained deal.

A bit of a turn, but with Bergevin saying today Weber could be done for his career, any chance the Habs look at Dougie Hamilton? Not sure if Montreal is a good place for him or not since he seems to thrive more in a lesser market. Perhaps Habs look at Barrie as a stop gap for a few years?

I think Buchnevich is a L shooting RW (please correct me if I am wrong), but he would be a guy I would like to see in our top 6. I don't think the goalie is a need, but Georgiev's cap hit isn't too bad as a very capable backup.

Omg Dougie would get eaten alive in Montreal...he'd run and cry in the corner of Musee des Beaux-Arts...

They stayed away from older guys who had AAV and term.
Gio was an exception in that he had one year left and played very easily to his current cap.
I have little doubt that would have taken on more cap if they liked the player associated with that cap. But it was a lot of expensive declining assets.
If they had taken on enough of those deals, they would have become one of those same teams which are trying to rid themselves of those same contracts.
But in any event, Johnny's value would be exceptionally higher. Vorachek would just be such a wrong target for Calgary to get for Johnny.
Francis would have asked around the league, and it's clear teams weren't lining up offering them anything of value to draft those guys and them trade to them.

Ektard is saying the Kings are going to be moving Brendan Lemieux.
Now I know it's Eklund and he's never right, this is just for conversational purposes.
I would take Lemieux and play him with either Tkachuck or Looch. His dad was a guy that you absolutely hated, unless he's on your team. This team needs more of that, make the Flames a team that everyone hates and hates to play against.
