Does it though?

Going backwards in time.

Added picks with Bennett trade + pick + prospect
Added picks with Rittich trade + pick
Added picks with Washington draft trade + pick
Added picks with Rangers draft trade + pick
Lost picks in Gustafsson trade - pick
Lost picks in Forbort trade - pick
Added picks in Frolik trade + pick
Added picks in Neal trade + pick
Lost picks in Fantenburg trade - pick

That takes us back to the beginning of the 2018-19 season or three years.

+ 6 picks
- 3 picks (4 with today)
+ prospect

Net assets +4

Quality depth like this is important on winning teams. We didn't get that from the UFA market last year with the bottom-six pieces that were added last off-season.

Good depth player, very good PK'er, physical, RW/RS, not a bad cap hit at all, Sutter type of player, and all for a 4th round pick.

Very ok with this one.

In a vacuum this seems fine. But big picture it’s a continuation of the trend of deficit spending on bottom of the roster players. When your scouts are pulling players like mangiapane in the 6th, you want to give them as many bullets as you can.

Tells you how bad the Coyotes are, there was nothing there and Seattle had to take a guy another team wanted in exchange for a 4th round pick in NEXT years draft.

Which is an absolutely ridiculous contract but that's probably Pitlick's closest comparable.

I’m just re-quoting this so people stop calling him a good penalty killer

He’s laughably bad on the PK

This is irrelevant really, this trade. Doesn’t change anything. Doesn’t make them better or worse really.

The Flames are +4 picks in the last 3 years.

So Seattle uses it's expansion draft pick to get a 4th rounder instead of a player from the coyotes? There better have been a side deal because I'm sure they could have taken something better from Arizona.

And a 4th round pick a year from now is likely a player who doesn’t play on this team for 5 years…. Maybe

All this needs to be is an upgrade over Domink Simon…the probability of hitting on a 4th rounder is low anyway.

Based on that, he probably isn't, but he's a guy you can use on the PK.

I wouldn't put much into those PK and PP stats. It's kind of odd they put them in there when they are trying to isolate individual player performance as the PP and PK are big team events. Unless you are a goalie, you can't kill a penalty on your own. Your teammates have a big impact on special teams maybe even more so than 5 on 5.

As long as he has killed penalties and knows how to, that's probably what you need. His efficiency in the PK can be adjusted by the PK structure of the team and by who he plays with.
