LTIR confuses me.
Doesn't Klefbom have to be on the opening day 20 man cap complaint roster?
Then, I thought they could exceed the cap by some amount up to Klefbom's salary.

And I didn’t worry about who is playing with who.

Well, you should. If all your goals come from one line anyway, signing a utility man at $5.5M to play on it is not money well spent.

I’d agree with you, but that’s what Frank Serevalli is speculating today.

Free agents can only sign 8 year deals with the team that holds/previously held their rights.
Any other team is 7 years max.

I'm glad Hyman isn't coming to CGY on that type of contract.

ahh thank you so even if it was a month in the future only TO could sign for 8 years.
Any idea why that was included in the CBA? Seems like an odd thing for the teams to fight for. Its only a one year difference,

Nearing semantics, but with the exception of Seattle during the expansion draft, it's actually what team held their rights at the time of the trade deadline and prior to them becoming UFA. So the Oiler's could not trade for his rights and then sign him to an 8 year deal, he must sign with Toronto and before July 28 to get an 8 year term.

Not even Toronto will be able to sign him for 8 years in a month. And I think it's 100% to encourage players to sign with the teams who have their rights and provide the ability for teams who do have their rights to potentially make sign-and-trades like this.

The difference between 7 and 8 years seems just so minor to make it worthwhile to include in the CBA to have an effect of really many occasions
Maybe that's why it was included ha, one NHL negotiator wanted it and everyone just "ok'd" it as it didn't' matter to anyone else

It seems to be a factor in these types of scenarios. For Hyman, it means an extra ~5mil guaranteed... doesn't seem like nothing.
Edit: With salary vs. term it equates to around 2.8M... still not nothing. And it becomes more valuable in higher salary scenarios, like Tavares for example.

I think Hyman is a very good player and he might be exactly what the oilers need.
I think he can bring more to the Oilers than he can to the Flames. Flames need something that changes the top six not just supplement it, like a Eichel or Laine.
Flames already have guys like Hyman in Lindholm, Mangiapane and Dube. They need the thoroughbreds.

Oilers D is worse, goaltending likely worse...slight upgrade at forward and no cap space for years.

Wasn't one of the reason's Dougie wanted out due to his love of high culture and the lack of it in Calgary? It's not exactly like Edmonton has the Louvre there so I would have to agree with you.
Then again, money makes people look past things pretty easily, possible he figures it will be fine and then just checks out. 8x8 for a player that soon regrets being there sounds like the standard E=NG contract.

I doubt Hamilton is signing with any Canadian team to be honest. After what happened here the guy is probably happy counting fat stacks in relative anonymity in Florida. Can't say I blame him either.

That is my opinion I know others view him far more highly but to me this is a role player being grossly overpaid in both dollars and term

Holland's hybrid approach is fine by me. Save a little money now, build a team that still cannot really compete for the Cup but hurt yourself down the line. I am good with them buying out Neal and Koskinen in that sense as well.

As an Oiler hater I absolutely love the moves he has made. Honestly I think he is worse than Chiarelli so far.
Ken’s best moves were the Barrie deal? What else? I guess Smith last year was a nice signing.
I think Connor is waiting until his NMC kicks in before he requests a trade but I do think it will come. I am not sure which of the Hyman or Nuge deal will look worse sooner.
