I think it is a Schrödinger cat situation. Eichel ends up on the Flames and he is broken forever. If he goes to a rival, he will kick ass. That is my Flames fan negativity haha

If I take anything out of that I really think he is trying to work a 3 way trade where Tkachuk is sent to another team and futures from the flames and that other team are sent to Buffalo
|
I think most have been thinking that too.
Tkachuck to St. Louis for young players and picks if they lose out on Landeskog (who might go to Seattle)
Or Tkachuk to Ottawa for young players and picks. You better believe McGuire wants to make a big splash like uniting the Tkachuks.
Young players and prospects for Eichel. That’s really the only way I see it working. You can get some combination of two good young established players and two first rounders from that, which is the asking price.

Trading Matthew Tkachuk would be a colossal mistake. If you thought Sam Bennett playing better in Florida was bad, this will be much worse.

Flames only trade Tkachuk because he has indicated he is not interested in staying here. I don’t think they are looking to move him for any other reason

Wonder if the newly realized cap space is a reason why the Flames are edging back in on Eichel

The big fish with this team would be irresponsible asset management. No more trading picks with a bare cupboard.

Not if he gets the Flames a colossal return.
He's a UFA in 2 years. He'll likely demand top dollar at that point.
Not sure if it's in the Flames best interests to have a huge percentage of their cap tied to two left wingers.
It kind of seems like Gaudreau is more loyal to the team than Tkachuk is. I would be surprised if Gaudreau doesn't sign a deal that is more team-friendly than Tkachuk's next deal.
Basically, if Tkachuk is the best player in the deal, it's probably not a good idea (a trade to St. Louis for guys like Kyrou and Thomas). If Tkachuk isn't the best player in the trade, it might be a good idea (Eichel).

Honestly, I think this is exactly why the Flames are back in. They have a lost more flexibility with the extra 6.75 cap space.

With the draft upon us I imagine the Sabres would prefer to get a deal done within the next 30 hours or so and definitely prior to free agency so maybe they are becoming more realistic with their demands. Not getting a deal done would put them in a difficult spot as the player doesn't want to be there and they probably want to start the season clean slate with no clouds hanging over their heads.

Yes, because trying to win is assine, it is much better to continually stockpile picks instead.

He is/was the future of this team so I am drawing a conclusion that if they are actually going to move him it is because he is not wanting to stay. Otherwise I feel he would remain as untouchable as he has been throughout his first 5 years here.
I simply don’t see the Flames trading him for any other reason. If he were committing to the team this summer I think he is named captain.

Ideally a Flames offseason consists of moving one of the LW, signing a player like Suter to a manageable deal, finding a decent proven back up and working out two top 6 RW.
My negative Nancy side says, they get OEL, move a center, find one RW with some upside and go Uber cheap on a goalie.

How is the player development guy making a big splash? He's not the GM.

Eichel with a half decent cupboard of prospects, I’m game. Because then you still have other ways to improve your roster. That’s not a position the Flames are in.
Grabbing Eichel puts us right next to the cap, likely costs you high end roster talent AND futures that we can’t spare.
You have to ask yourself: does Eichel put us in the 5-6 team conversation as a cup contender? If not, how then do you suggest we improve those odds with absolutely no trade collateral besides winning ‘hockey trades’?
Also - when has this team ever ‘continually’ stockpiled picks? Drafting in the first snd second round every year doesn’t constitute as stockpiling picks, but would be a great place to start.

I think that title is just BS. He's a snake, and he's wiggled his way into Melnyk's inner circle. The title was probably just to appease Dorian.
What does McGuire know about player development? He's been a tv analyst for a long time.
He can still take credit for big moves. He talks a lot and will talk up his influence in big moves.

I think adding Eichel and the team playing to their capabilities we are top 3 in the West, with Colorado and Vegas being the only concerns.
