Pitlick trade is set to be announced per Friedman. Only question is to who...

What am I missing on this guy? He seems like a 4th line player that makes a $1.7 million. Think flames or flyers for that matter could find a cheaper alternative, considering they would have to give something up to get him. I rather the flames just put in a young kid from farm and see how he does.

Would not be at all surprised if this costs us a second rounder, do we not have anybody in Stockton who can fill this role, if not why not. This team drives me nuts.

Pitlick is a depth player type of a guy, Flames should not be sending a 2nd for this type of a player...…

If Seattle retains salary, and Calgary is only giving up a very late draft pick, I guess I might not hate it. But why would Seattle do that?

Could it be part of a larger hockey trade?

At the end of the day, I hope he's going somewhere other than Calgary.

I have a couple of friends who are Philly-fans, and they're in fact hoping to get Pitlick back, so... I can see him eating SH-TOI and from what I know of him, he's at least trying every shift, has a lot of energy etc., so I think that he would be an improvement over Simon/Leivo/Nordström (which isn't that difficult). But at what price? I wouldn't trade higher pick than a-third-rounder we got from EDM, what would also stink.

Exactly. Why not focus on bigger deals to shake up the core first with cap flexibility.. that is what is needed.

I guarantee there will be guys like Pitlick available in Free Agency later this off-season. Or you know, God forbid we give a guy from the farm like Gawdin a chance.

4th for Fantenberg.
3rd for Smith.
2nd for Lazar.
2nd for Elliott.
1st, 2nd, 2nd for Hamonic.
I know Treliving gets a lot of flack for the above, but you also need to include trades which brought picks in. At the end of the day I don't think it is that bad. The only one that stands out is the Haminoc one.

2nd, 3rd for Glencross
2nd for Baertschi
2nd, 4th for Hudler
2nd for Russell
6th for David Jones
7th for Kanzig (only reason I added this is because Wolf was selected)
3rd for Neal
4th for Frolik
extra two 3rd for trading back in the Zary draft
3rd for Rittich
2nd for Bennett

Having these good trades (except that Bennett trade, awful) to combat the bad trades doesn't make Treliving a good GM though.

Treliving's best work was definitely in those first few years though where he flipped Russell/Hudler/Glencross. The Flames should have still been doing those types of trades in recent years. Like last year when the Flames were battling for a playoff spot just like they were when we traded Glencross - we should have traded pending UFA TJ Brodie. Instead of making a smart trade like he did with Glencross, Treliving spent a 3rd and a 4th on irrelevant spare parts. When we should have walked away with an additional 1st, we ended up short a 3rd and a 4th.

The Flames are trying to compete and were in a playoff spot. No GM is selling off the team in that situation.

You have to try to win- you don’t just sell off UFA’s every season

I hate this if it means Ruzika doesn't get the spot on the 4th line

If he’s the best option, he will be there.

Why do people think it's not possible to do both.
Just because the Flames trade for Pitlick doesn't mean Tree also can't work on larger moves at the same time.

Brad let a better version of Pitlick in Hathaway walk because he didn’t value what he brought. He also waived him like 4 times

Now he wants to give a good pick for a worse player to do the same role for a bigger payday. Pitlick is a fourth liner set to make 2.2 million for his 5th team

There is no defending this move

The mindset shift between 2014/2015 and 2019/2020 is completely unjustified though. It’s the same quality of team, same ability to compete. Still a bubble team, and they should have been acting that way.

Also, didn’t he try to trade Brodie? For Kadri?
