"But he cleared waivers" is almost always a really lazy analysis which ignores the timing, the roster size at the time, the cap, etc.

Some of the recovery skates he did (in part to a couple of his own blunders on bad turnovers) closing off a quickstrike chance for the opposition last season were remarkable. You polish this kids game up and he is a gem.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing spectacular.

But it looks like the game is beginning to slow down for Kylington.

I don’t get the sense anybody expects multiple Norris trophies, but it isn’t unreasonable to believe Oliver can take a regular shift on an NHL blue line.

He’s right at that age when defensemen begin to figure it out, and our team sorta needs him to.

This is actually interesting in a thread about Mark Giordano. The guy our current head coach once felt deserved a 3-way contract at roughly Kylington's age. The value of "unknowns" is so volatile - and both players similarily flashed talent.

The reason this happened is because the free agent signing last summer that was pretty much universally panned turned out to be better than we all imagined.

I remember last offseason stating the best case scenario for Tanev was he played well enough to be selected by Seattle. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought Gio would be lost to Seattle because either he was going to be protected or he was going to regress to the point he wouldn’t be selected.

What? Obviously you didn't like it, and there were many others, but it far from universally panned. I would say it was more like 50/50, leaning on favourable.

Kylington is the same age Gio was when he went to Russia. He has also played almost twice as many NHL games as Gio had at the same age.
