Sorry I was thinking about leading the team to wins. How many times the team failed to show up under his leadership….
It depends on what you want in a captain I guess

I'd take a good human to start 100% of the time.
That gets you a culture where winning could happen.
But it's not as simple as showing up and acting like Messier. A lot has to go right to win.
I'm fairly certain whatever hasn't gone right has little to do with anything shown, said or done by Mark Giordano.

Gios a fine Captain. Probably more of a great Captain in the grand scheme of things. Mega presence in the community and charities, always available to them.
From a hockey perspective he sets the bar physically which is all you can ask for and on the ice he's done his job.
He's not a guy who drags his team along like iggy did, but he tries to elevate his team.

Man, that would be so fun despite the stress and work!

I imagine a lot of big bulletin boards with player name puzzle pieces. Ideally red strings running all of the place, too.

I think they assumed that they couldn’t do so until someone offered to give them a first round pick, so they waited.

I guess he was a terrible captain too.

Not terrible by any means, but I do think his captaincy is somewhat overrated. I recall more than a few years of listless defensive effort and lack of coaching buy-in, that I'm sure filtered down to the rest of the team. The waning team effort and consistently poor results in games that mattered also has to be taken into consideration.
Great player, and a greater person. But great captain? I'm not so sure.

There was also a divide in the locker room later in his era in terms of how the team should play.

Tampa won the cup and they have a captain....
Whether Seattle will make a roster selection with a jersey with the "C" is unknown.
Personally I would bet, they will start the season with a captain

If Seattle has a captain day 1 it will be Landeskog

I think that every captaincy is overrated. Far too much is attributed to him when teams win, and he shoulders far too much blame when they do not.

I would tend to agree, depending on whom they select in the expansion draft. However, I suspect that it will make virtually no difference to their on-ice success or failure.

What was the point of having a head coach eh?

IMHO, a strong captain doesn’t let that happen. The team should play the way the coach tells them to play. One of the jobs of a captain is to make sure they do.

Hmm, same issue as today. I wonder if this is more of an issue on the Flames than most teams. Sure feels like they are better on paper than in reality.

I'm confident they will take Giordano. It's the best player available by a long shot. Even if not to keep him for themselves but to flip him as some insiders have speculated.

This just doesn’t make sense . So Seattle bluffs and despite the Flames attempting to keep Gio and offering something , Seattle refuses and then selects Ryan
Unless you mean they are bluffing and will make a side deal tomorrow for lesser assets - or Calgary calls their bluff
All seem highly unlikely

If Seattle was smart they would take Phillip's.
But I have had a man crush on him since he was a Royal

Gio is the only player unprotected that Treliving would give up something to keep. That alone should tell you Seattle should be picking.

I think locker room issues are overblown.
When it comes down to it, the Flames from 2007-2013 just weren't very good. We had maybe a couple seasons between 07 and 09 with Langkow and Huselius/Cammalleri/Tanguay (particularly 08/09 when a bunch of players were injured just before the playoffs), but overall the team was constructed poorly, gave up tons of assets for bottom six forwards or bottom pairing defencemen, and never had any help coming through the prospect pipeline.
Darryl = bad GM
The results from after the lockout to when Iggy was traded are primarily on him.

Everything since the lockout is on Sutter. Without Kiprusoff and the run, this team is moved somewhere else. We can only have Hotchkiss cry in the media so many times before they actually do relocate.
