There’s nothing more annoying than the Monahan was injured debate (every season). Injured just enough to forgive his poor play but not enough to sit him out so year after year he grinds away with long stretches of poor performance.
If he is injured sit him out, let him rest and heal. If he isn’t, play him. Why is this so hard for the Flames?
Plenty of injuries (a) don’t heal simply with rest (b) don’t get worse with additional play. But those injuries still need attention like surgery in the off season. Lots of players play injured when the doctor says the injury won’t get worse and if they think the player is better than any replacement, even at a less productive level of play. Weber and Kucherov both played the finals with significant injuries.
As usual, what people think is a simple answer isn’t as simple as they think.

Johansen has scored under 15 goals in 9 of his 11 seasons
Monahan started his career averaging 28 goals in his first 7 seasons with 22 being his lowest output. This season was the first time Monahan hasn't scored at least 22
I know there's more than just goals, but if Johansen is the return for Monahan I'd much rather hope he can bounce back and keep him
Ryjo ppg avg last 5 seasons is .70
Mony ppg avg last 5 season is .79
I think it's pretty close and Mony had the benefit of playing with an elite playmaker.
I would expect a big "Plus" from the Preds in a deal, but for me, it's more of giving both players and teams a change of scenery. Things are stale for both teams.

Here's the team I came up with. Some of the teams were tough to pick from. Team is missing a 1C and a veteran starter but the future in net looks great. Voracek contract is rough but he is a productive player and the other contracts on the team look nice. Giordano maybe a trade chip?

^^ kind of weak down the middle and they have to completely rebuild almost right away. Also doesn’t any list almost have to include Dreidger given the reporting?
Thinking about it and if I was Seattle I would be very tempted to grab Price and Kahkonen as my tandem from the draft. Sure Price has 5 years left, but he gives you instant credibility as a franchise that will have some warts. Sort of like Fleury with Vegas, it gave them a security blanket. Gives them a Goalie now, and maybe one in the future.

Substitute price for fleury and add a center in free agency . Thats a better team on paper than the canadiens or flames

Accordng to NHL.com, his ppg over the last 5 seasons is only 0.66
Spoiler!

How any team can look at a free carey price and say no (regardless of price ) ((pun intended)) ., is beyond me . The marketing for an expansion team would be huge. Not to mention winning gets fans (ex. Vegas) . Price may be expensive for a team that already has bad contracts but if any team can afford to invest 12 m in the most important position, its the kraken .

Sure, but there are still issues.
1. He is expensive.
2. He is often injured.
3. He is on the wrong side of 30 for someone with all those injuries.
Its paying high dollars for all the wrong years. You might get great seasons out of him, but what are those $10.5M dollar seasons at the tail-end of that contract going to look like?

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Adding Price puts them over the cap. Would have to remove two of the top 6 forwards from the drafted team. Could sign Tuukka Rask or Frederik Andersen as a UFA
Edit: It should also be mentioned that Monny scored 60 more goals than Johansen, despite playing 3 less games.
Not a big difference. Like I said, I still only do a deal if there's a big plus coming to the Flames.

Double the goals for mony.....but supposedly they don't count cause JG can set up anyone . Isn't that why guys like Comeau and Richie were such prolific goal scorers with Johnny?
Seriously though, Johansen sucks . He's always been an under achieving soft player. Everything bad ppl say about mony is worse with RyJo. Disengaged lazy player with no scoring touch.
I tried to put on my Francis hat and be super frugal and focus on up and coming 20-25 year olds and I still ended up with a $72M cap hit. I'd post here but Cap Friendly crashed my browser on the view team page.

He’s done one thing in his career worth while:

Here's the positives
1 he's free
2 he's elite
3 he's free
4. Hes the best player available.
5. Limited risk if he's injured as their likely to have a young and cheap 1b goalie , maybe even 2
Scenario: Seattle takes Price but, as usual he is hurt and goes LTIR, projected to return (like this year) at PO time. Contending team who happens to be at the cap trades for him at the TDL and keeps him on LTIR until POs, and suddenly heads into POs with Price. Maybe the Caps, Panthers, Bruins (can you imagine Price as a Bruin playing in Montreal).
