Never dish anything over 5 per for a player that did all of his best work riding shotgun with elite players.

And I even like ZH.

Agreed, 100%

Landsskog has done well through different iterations of that Avalanche team, wears a letter, plays with an edge and puts up a PPG.

If it's a ridiculous contract for Hyman or slightly more for Landeskog, you take the latter every time.

Named captain as a teenager. Listening to him over the years in interviews and podcasts, if he became a Flame I'd honestly give him the C after Gio

If a trade around Tkachuk for Eichel somehow happens, Landeskog would be a perfect replacement with a similar level of grit

Gaudreau - Eichel - Mangiapane
Landeskog - Monahan - Lindholm

For even more of a shake up Monahan could be moved for a RW, but personally I'd like to keep him. I wouldn't even be opposed to Monahan playing wing if it's with Gaudreau and Eichel

Also, Hyman was 'looking for $5M' from the Leafs, clearly they are not offering it, or he would have signed. So Seravelli's quote of 'leaving millions on the table' could just as easily mean $5M elsewhere, or $4M with the Leafs.

I am always amazed at how quickly fans escalate expected player signings. Remember the angst over Gio 'wanting $9m'? Or the Gaudreau negotiations?
HA!

Makes fun of a guy for “how quickly fans escalate expected player signings”, then does just that. Check the original question I asked you.

Yeah that's pretty much my dream scenario/retool.

Swap a core guy and assets for Eichel, sign GL.

Exactly the kind of transplant of skill, leadership and character that would jumpstart this core and team.

Since entering the league in 2013, Landeskog is 32nd in league scoring (tied with Toews), just behind Hall and Mark Stone, and just ahead of Monahan and Johansen.

His PPG average puts him up there with Tkachuk, Forsberg, Laine, Zibanejad, and ahead of guys like Couture and Nylander. Over the past 2 seasons, his PPG average is roughly a point per game.

If you are just considering offense, forwards in the same 30th to 35th vicinity have cap hits of roughly $7.5 million AAV.

But, Landeskog is 28th in hits with over 1,000 since that time. The Flames forwards with the closest to that right now is Tkachuk with just over 500 Backlund with just over 400 (for context). Tkachuk does have a better hits/60 measurement though.

Add to that, Landeskog is one of the best leaders and plays a physical game. Not to mention, he is active in the community and oozes personality, which would make him very marketable in Calgary.

I could see a team easily offering north of $7-7.5 million on a long term deal, and $8 million on a short term deal.
I agree with these numbers and basically what your saying is why I’m not interested. Based on these numbers he probably is getting at least $8 mil. I would struggle to give it to him based on the fact that he plays a very large percent of his ice time with 2 elite players and 1 that is considered as good as it gets. I’m not suggesting he’s a complete mooch like a guy like Kassian a couple years ago but he no question the 3rd best player on the line. We could sign him and play him with monahan and mangiapane and find out he’s a $5 or $6 mil guy making $8+

That would be some sort of off season if Treliving pulled that off and Eichel was healthy. Could potentially turn this ship around and get it headed in the right direction.

^^^A $5M or $6M player making $8M would be a welcome change from $0.75M players who are making $4.25M or $5.75M

I agree and if we can keep the numbers at $7 I’d give him more term to entice him to come here.

He would be a good add for no assets and at a cap around what Johnny and Tkachuk currently make. Trade one of both if they won’t resign for assets and its a quick retool.

I have a feeling Johnny might actually resign too and it might be a decent cap hit but lots of term

Look, if Landeskog likes Denver, he’ll like Calgary.

People think Calgary’s some Texas of Canada, but I tell them all the time, it’s really Denver without mass shootings.

So, an agent schlepping for his client, directly, not through Friedman or Lebrun or any other of the insider routes, and almost 1/4 of the teams in the league or listed? And because they know it will play well in hockey starved and struggling Western Canadian markets, and maybe Hyman wants to come west, the agent pushes that narrative...and everyone flips out.

What?

First of all, I answered your question in post 161.

Second, the reference to $7M was in response to another poster (1qqaaz IIRC)

I am not the one escalating numbers.

Do not want Hyman - Toronto players are always overhyped and overvalued. And the cost to the receiving team is almost always too high.

Hyman isn't the missing key to Calgary contending for a cup imo. He's fine as a complimentary piece and he definitely has value but Calgary has plenty of pieces. What they need is an elite C. Go get Eichel. What are we talking about here?

Twelve year old me would like to sign Hyman so that any time he plays against a player named Johnson, there's the potential for jokes.

It won't be slightly more. If they both go to free agency, Landeskog will get at least $2M per year more than Hyman, maybe closer to $3M.

IMO he's worth it

If the rumors of what Colorado are offering are true, I'd be happy to offer more. I'd easily offer 6yr x $7 or 7yr x $6 .25 for Landeskog

The rumored deals he's turned down from Colorado are:

4yr x $6.5
5yr x $7
8yr x $5.125

Again, IMO he'd be the best option to be the next captain on this roster, and if he makes it to free agency hes the best guy available with the most ~*intangibles*~
