It's neck and neck with the Sabres.

At least McDavid hasn't asked for a trade yet...

Keith's partner is probably going to be Bear (assuming they re-sign Larsson or sign a replacement for him, to play with Nurse). Keith and Bear would be an absolutely horrific 2nd pair.
Keith played just a bit more than Gio did last season.... He was mainly paired with 22 year old Ian Mitchell 5-11 173 lbs and a total of 39 NHL games and then 20 year old Adam Boqvist 5-11 179 lbs and at the end of last season 76 NHL games.

Bear is 24, 5-11 197 and has 132 NHL games.... playing around 20 Minutes a game. He is a total -5 on the Oilers over the last 2 seasons. He is a grizzled veteran compared to what Keith was dragging around last year.

We just saw a SC final where the 167 playoff games of Corey Perry showed the value of playoff experience. Keith has 135 Playoff games all as a #1 d-man and most as the best D-man on the ice for either team.

In the playoffs Keith >>>>>> Barrie and will be for as long as he plays

The closest comparison to Keith would be Lidstrom who was very good as a 41 year old.

This is somehow even more hilarious than the trade itself.

When Oiler-fans, who are largely baseless optimists to begin with, immediately realize that a trade they've made is bad...its an entirely different world.

Wow.

Player, pick and no retained salary?

No, I highly doubt it.

I'm just wondering - Like, could this be prep work for something bigger? It just really doesn't make sense.

The last year Keith could draw a comparison to Lidstrom in any way, shape or form was in 2016-17.

We will be 5 years removed from that.

Keith should fall somewhere on a spectrum between 41 year old Nik Lidstrom and 62 year old Kevin Lowe next season. just not sure where yet

Nick Lidstrom was very good into his 40s because he was good at helping Detroit prevent scoring chances.

What, exactly, makes Keith good at this point? Chicago became far worse defensively with him on the ice last season.

I'm thanking this post. Your cynicism brings me genuine glee.

Now...how many games is Duncan Keith actually going to play for Edmonton? Should we start a pool for how long it takes for him to hit LTIR?

My money says he plays 5 games in that hideous sweater before he hits LTIR.

Barrie was actually very good for the Oilers last season. McDavid doesn't strike me as the sharpest pencil in the box but I can't imagine he's thinking a 38 year old Duncan Keith is going to replace Barrie in that lineup.

Maybe he meant that Lidstrom coming out of retirement would be a better NHL defenceman in 21/22 than Keith would?

Duncan Keith....

You'd have to be high or stupid to make this trade.
