Oiler fans: what's the plan with Larsson? Re-sign, or replace?
There is no way they can replace for less than $4M on the open market. They need a top pairing guy (so Bear can play 2nd pairing), and they aren't getting that for less than $5+M (likely more).

Not always, the player can get the new team to honour the NMC. Example is Lucic, he waived but his NMC is still in effect. As someone else said though, they won't have a problem protecting him with the garbage they have on D.

It’s another Oiler short cut that is actually a dead end.
I can’t wait for the tripe of “oh once he plays with McDavid he’ll be a $5.5 million defenceman again.”
Sure… but that really only validates how stupid they are and how they waste his talent.
The value in having McDavid is he can make $3 million dollar offensive defenceman look like a $6 million dollar offensive dman. Any value is gone out the window when you pay someone for how they play with McDavid instead of paying them how they play without him.
