I would be just fine to see the lineup on any given playoff night have to satisfy the cap
The iced lineup has to have regular season salaries totaling no more than $81.5 M. It’s that easy.
Doesn’t matter how they handled the regular season or used LTIR. Keep it simple
I would be okay with this too but doesn't change that Tampa was compliant under the current rules.
Really though I think the NHL should make the rule that you can't dress a roster higher than the cap. The whole accruing of cap space and being able to add more cap at the deadline was always overly complex and complicated.
I would look at three rules if I am in the NHL head office for cap:
1) Teams dressed roster needs to be cap compliant throughout the regular season and playoffs.
2) Teams can exceed the salary cap by 20% from the week before the trade deadline to the end of the season, but the dressed roster still needs to be cap compliant for all games including the playoffs.
3) Adjust the rules for being able to trade cap / retain salary in a trade. There should be no limit on the amount of retained salary transactions a team can make, and teams shouldn't have to retain salary for the entire life of the contract (teams should be only able to retain salary for the current season or a portion of the contract if they wish).
I loved the interview. No problems with any of it. People crying that children look up to the players--maybe children need better parents to tell them what is right and wrong instead of relying on public figures.
We complain about hockey cliches in interviews all the time, calling them boring and whatever else. But when a player, just after winning the Cup, gives a candid interview with some personality, people are upset.
I say we need more of these types of interviews, not less.

From this, I love how pissed off Habs fans are from his comments. He's villain #1 in that city now.
It's great. Nice to see fun drama like this within the NHL.
I agree, but I still don't think any better of Kucherov for making a public ass of himself. I think the old prescription, ‘A pox on both their houses,’ covers this situation just about perfectly.

The last two Stanley Cup finals were the most boring I have ever watched. Last year because of the bubble, and this year because Tampa winning was a forgone conclusion after around game 2 of their first series. At least the Islanders put up something of a fight, but Montreal was completely exposed as a team that should have never made the finals to begin with
The Panthers put up a strong fight, it took 6 games for the Lightning to win that series. The Hurricanes were defeated in 5 games, just like the Habs.
The thing that sickens me is that it's being advertised that the Lightning won their 3rd Stanley Cup.That's wrong! It's only their 2nd cup, 2004 didn't happen. It was in.
Am I allowed to think that interviews like Kucherov are awesome, and we need more of it, and he’s a ######bag? Cause that’s where I’m at. Love interviews like that, and I dislike Kucherov even more than I did before as a fan of another team.

I think everybody knows that when we say ‘won’, we mean ‘were awarded’. Dallas didn't win the Cup in '99, it was awarded to them. Tampa didn't win the Cup in '04, it was awarded to them. But the names engraved on the trophy are still counted. One could probably come up with other examples.

BTW, Montreal played a bunch of PO games over the cap as well (though not the finals because they scratched Tatar). I bet Drouin was healthy by the finals as well.
Was on vacation last week, great run, but not enough steam to get to the finish. Proud of my team.
Drouin was healthy? Do you think you heal that quickly after a nervous breakdown? He's never playing in Montreal again, and I'll be surprised if he plays anywhere else anytime soon.

People heal from emotional issues at different rates, at least as far as going back to work is concerned.
I don't think the Habs were in any hurry to get him back in though.
