Some suggestions that fans of other teams are suggesting:
OTT: #10 + Batherson and some other stuff for Matthew Tkachuk
TOR: Tkachuk and Andrew Mangiapane for Marner, Tkachuk and Lindholm for Marner, Mikheyev, 2nd
VAN: 9th overall + Podkolzin for Tkachuk
STL: Kyrou and Thomas for Matthew Tkachuk
BUF: Reinhart and 1st overall for Tkachuk and 12th overall, Tkachuk +++ for Eichel

He plays on the second line of a bubble team and puts up second line numbers. This isn't as outlandish as you make it sound.

LOL
Since entering into the NHL Matthew Tkachuk is 6th in the entire league in scoring among LW's. Only guys ahead of him are named Marchand, Panarin, Ovechkin, Huberdeau and Gaudreau.
Second line numbers....good one.

Meh, there's been lots of times over the last 15 years that I thought the flames were setting the table to become a contender. Where they went out and got that last piece and I was sure success was right around the corner. I'm sure that's exactly how the organisation has felt all this time and the gravy went to all of our thighs. Give me Darryl and a cast of misfits, play hard, see what happens. Tkachuk's ego might be an asset on the right team, but for us it's bloat that will soon work it's way to our cap.

Holtz + 4... that is a pretty good offer if we have rebuild on the table.
Eichel package if not.

Flames could take that deal and the cap savings to take a run at Hall or Nuge in hopes of remaining competitive.

I still think a three team deal could make sense:
Calgary Receives: Eichel + Reinhart
Columbus Receives: Monahan
Buffalo Receives:
- Tkachuk
- Calgary 2021 1st (12th overall)
- Florida 2022 2nd (via Calgary)
- Toronto 2021 1st (25th overall via Columbus)
- Tampa Bay 2022 3rd (via Columbus)
That feels like it’s pretty fair all around and I feel like it’s something Buffalo could sell to the fanbase.
Sure you lose Eichel and Reinhart but Tkachuk, 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd feel like pretty good return. You get a young star and 4 high picks.

That wasn’t the first line and it wasn’t even a line at all for over half a season.

|
That would be before Kyrou put up 14 EVG 32EVP in 14:25 (only 3 PPA's, so 35pts total).
Tkachuk: 16G (12EVG) 43P (28EVP) in 18:09.
Thomas had a down year with injuries, but has shown lots of promise. Both are coming off their ELCs and looking at bridge deals.

He did say 'most'. Nate Schmidt, Paul Stastny, etc. Teams with cap space can take advantage of quality cap dumps.

The operative word being “most “.
And that was some years ago, pre-pandemic.

Fact is Ottawa or New Jersey could easily be in the market for Tkachuk and could trade him without needing to send the same amount of cap (or any) back

There was an easier way for the Canucks to get Tkachuk back in 2016.

Yay Olli!! Well that makes it all worth it.
I suppose it’s like having Monahan and Lindholm and Shinkaruk and Lazar and Poirier and Rychel and Klimchuk. You want to provide Horvat?
