Because 29 is NOT over the hill for most players, Tarasenko has size, speed and a blistering shot we could use and Sutter and Treliving are either all in or all out, and we know Sutter himself is all in and doesn't care about 3-4 years from now.

Mugs game anyway though, Tarasenko has a full No Trade Clause. St Louis would really have to want him gone to convince him to drop it to go to Calgary. This is the home of the Swedish Mafia not the Russian Mob.

He has been injured LTIR a couple of times now but he did play 5 straight seasons prior to that. So's Eichel, so's Mathews, so's Stamkos and of course Kucherov so lots of star players get banged up.

I get why we would want a bona fide rifle like shooter and while Laine's younger he's also a terrible 2 way player from all accounts.

Gio's on the road nearly half the time during the season, so I doubt they'd relocate the family if he ended up in SEA. They can come visit him for a few home stretches, he can come home for Xmas and ASB, plus 2+ games in CGY.

No guarantee SEA takes Gio even if he's exposed. The impression is that they want to draft the min. possible salary and then extort more value in trades.

They need to draft 48.9M in AAV. Assuming 20 guys average around 1M, that means they need to draft a surplus of ~$29M.

 Possibilities
Goalies (Quick, Allen, Holtby, Khudobin, etc.)

 Voracek/JVR...

TBL: McDonagh/Cernak, or I wouldn't be surprised if they offered a Gourde+T Johnson package

COL: need to do something about their 4 D...you can probably pencil $4M+ from them (maybe they go 4-4 and expose Kadri or Donskoi)

MIN: Dumba/Hartman/Rask/Talbot - probably some $$$ one way or the other

MTL: Chiarot/Edmundson...maybe even Byron (or Jake Allen)

NAS: They might go 4-4 and maybe even expose a Duchene or Johansen. (Kunin, Arvidsson, Forsberg...)

 PIT: McCann/Rust/Matheson

 Other $$$$ D:
 Risto/C Miller
 Gio
Skjei/Gardiner or Bean (pending RFA...maybe CAR gets creative to try to keep him)
Zadorov/De Haan, though ELC Riley Stillman may be attractive

I suppose my point is that SEA won't have much trouble drafting that surplus $29M, especially with defensemen (lots of LD at that). It's hard to play out the scenario without knowing the actual protection lists, or knowing how coveted certain prospects might be on these teams that have established $$$ players.

Honestly, I don’t know why the Blues even consider this deal for a second. Tarasenko alone has more value than Chucky.

In the same radio segment, O'Brien states that he's heard Tarasenko wants out.

That's just not true at all. Tarasenko has dealt with a ton of injuries and is two years away from UFA.

This is a young man’s game. Youth=value. In most cases, the older the player gets, the more his value decreases. If we were to trade Chucky, I would hope we get somebody young back.

So people want to dump Monahan cause he is broken down and worthless but think Tarensenko who has had three shoulder injuries is worth more than Tkachuk. Either people are completely beaten down as Flames fan which I understand or are straight trolling.

Jesus this Tkachuk rumour better not be true. We need more players that want to go to war every game, not less. Tkachuks game did a 180 for the worse right after that players meeting. The captain should have put an end to that discussion the second it was brought up that Tkachuk should take it easy. I’d have no problem with the gm trading any player that thought Tkachuk needs to not got to war every night. I don’t know how but Calgary has had a country club vibe ever since the cup final run.

I think the day Tkachuk signed that contract we should have all known very well he wasn't long for this organization. That said the Blues simply don't have a trade that works for the Flames. Plenty of other US teams can offer better players/prospects.

I dont think we should give a single #### about where Matt wants to play if he's asking for a trade. He can figure that out with his next team. We should trade him for the best package possible. We owe him nothing.
