I think given his clean history, DOPS got it right. They also nailed the explanation and commentary around not making a defensive play when it was clearly possible.
Think this is my first agreement with the DOPS in a long long time.

The biggest takeaway for me from this event is the epic hypocrisy from Paul Maurice, wow. If the HHOF had a Hypocrite category he'd be a first ballot inductee. I can't believe when Scheifiele got injured it's "dirty" and "vicious" and that Tkachuk intentionally stabbed the back of his leg with a skate (like WTF) but when Scheifele undoubtedly tries to put a guy either in the wheelchair row or a wheelchair with a late hit it's "clean".
Maurice is a grade A clown.

I don’t think any player expects a guy to come 150 feet down the ice on a back check and just blow you up in that situation, especially since they are too late to actually stop a goal.
Just a selfish and gutless play by Scheifele and not a “keep your head up” situation at all IMO.

Fair points, well made.
The only thing I want to quibble about is the idea that just because hits on vulnerable players are happening less doesn't mean you can leave your own safety to chance.
3 years ago a piece of heavy equipment was backed onto my foot. The guy driving the machine was out to lunch and made a mistake, but I was the guy that put himself in harms way. If you work in a dangerous environment (construction, professional hockey, etc) you have to look after yourself.
I was very lucky to not suffer permanent damage. Hopefully Evans is ok, too.

Yeah, I believe it was in reference to CorsiHockeyLeague's posts from earlier, hence the "liars!" part.

I was thinking 3-5 games, so this one didn't surprise me. Hrudey nailed it - The player knew the race was lost and decided to blow him up.
Now they lost a key player because he was running around all game mad, trying to get someone and finally did.

If so, it'd be, ironically, a total lie about what I posted.

Every coach is a clown. They defend their players and battle the opposition too.

Show me a coach that doesn't take his players side in public. Especially one of his top players. I dont think it was a smart play, but to go to the media and say "idiot play, don't know why he did it, should know better" does what exactly?

Yeah imagine a league where superstar players don’t have career ending brain damage and having a problem with that.

Really? We haven't heard Ducharme say much about this hit and it was dirty.

I'm surprised the DOPS doesn't have a simple flowchart or a chart of some sort to simplify suspensions. That way there would be clear understanding of why players are suspended every time and leave no grey area.
I do agree with this suspension, but it's still very inconsistent.

Maybe it was the overt, baseless criticism of Tkachuk that was domino of Maurice's hypocrisy.

A lot of coaches play the media to drive their agenda. That's what Maurice was doing regarding Tkachuk.

Of course a coach backs his player. He should. But what Maurice said in the media about Tkachuk last year was downright heinous. Calling it "intentional" and a "absolutely filthy, disgusting hit". "He went after the back of his leg. Could have cut his achilles".
Maurice is a clown.

One thing that was interesting yesterday listening to the FAN discuss who needs to step up and then talking about PLD. It really seems like that massive blockbuster has underwhelmed on both sides (with the exception of Roslivic).
Sounds like Dubois has been very ‘meh’ for the Jets so far.

Maybe still feeling effects from his injury? I seem to recall that he was pretty good for Winnipeg before getting hurt.

Scheifele shocked he got anything. C'mon man. Accept some responsibility.
https://winnipegsun.com/sports/hocke...-nothing-wrong
Even if you ignore the point of contact (clean/dirty) debate, it was an over-the-top hit in a game that was over. 'My intent on that play is to try and negate a goal'. BS. Wasn't even looking at the puck. If you're trying to negate a goal you get your stick on the puck. His intent was to annihilate Evans because Schiefele was really frustrated.
Having said that, it is really disgusting if people are truly harassing his family with phone calls/online. Why are people such ignorant cowards? If I have issue with something somebody has done, what is accomplished by harassing their brother/spouse etc. Just trash, garbage people. Not acceptable, families of players shouldn't have to deal with that.
