Unfortunate implies that the likely outcome of that hit was not what we saw, which is 100% false. The end result of that play / decision by Schiefele was the most likely outcome of that play, it wasn’t bad luck or fortune. That’s what likely happens when you do that to someone.
I would agree it’s debatable what’s been acceptable re:the rules and very debatable what’s been acceptable re:hockey culture. But if you are comfortable with that play, it means you are comfortable with intent to injure as part of the sport (and that has been acceptable in hockey culture in the past). Injuries are going to happen in hockey, and physicality should still be part of the game, but I’m not ok with intentional maiming of people being an acceptable play in hockey at this point.
Really? Get out of here. I don't think I should even respond to your post when you clearly haven't even thought my post through.
I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH INTENT TO INJURE AS PART OF THE SPORT.
I think Scheifele can pretty easily close that 12-18 inch gap between sticks if he just reaches to protect the post with his stick.
It would be a bit like an old race on an icing call...high speed and risky, but they used to happen several times a game without injury. Of course this is different because they were moving in different directions...

Lol Walker you moron, what does that even mean? Evans did play to the whistle. He scored. Thats easily the stupidest post on this hit I’ve seen. And I read YouTube comments.

Schiefele should get 6 games. At a minimum. He needs to be out for the series.
That was gutless, and is a perfect example of the type of hit that the league is trying to get rid of.

This is why I think this is reckless but still not nearly as malicious as made out to be. The situations are similar with old icings where players would get lit up in the race to touch the puck. Both players are going full tilt like an icing call except in this case Evans has changed trajectories and is coming out at Scheifele. Of course Scheifele has taken a fast and straight trajectory to stop the goal just like in an icing race. If he reaches out and plays the puck he is still going full speed into Evans even moreso since Evans is skating out at him. I do agree Scheifele should have dove or done something differently but I don't think he had any premeditated intent to hurt Evans and it was an unfortunate collision albeit reckless.

Have to disagree. In that pic it looks like he’s already lowering his shoulder and targeting a defenceless player. It’s a garbage, Tom Wilson/ kadri type hit. NHL needs to come down hard on him but who knows these days.

I think Evans put himself into a very vulnerable position to score a playoff insurance goal on his birthday and Scheifele is a bit psychopathic in his savvy devastating hit that was meant to impact a 7 game series, not this one game. It’s a gamble in both players minds in a fraction of a second.

Call me an awful person but I’m having trouble seeing anything other than a two minute charge here
“Playing the puck” here is really tough. More likely to just score on your own net if you slide
Maurice having to defend this after his diva show last year is going to be funny to watch though. But I honestly see this as a minor penalty with a bad outcome and zero intent

You know they introduced a change to icing to avoid unnecessary violent collisions, right?

Without commenting on the hit itself as it was most definitely a charge.
This was a player in clear control of the puck who knew and could see the defender coming and could have easily protected themselves but instead put themselves in a vulnerable position to score the goal. That is not what a defenseless player is.

Since people wanted to see what Maurice said, here you go. First question.
