A calculator? You know their cap, you can add it up

^Quadruple post score!

You know multiquote is a feature, yeah?

As for this debacle, yeah, as soon as Kucherov was practicing this should have been investigated by independent doctors hired by the NHL. The fact that it wasn't seems to be a big shrug to the whole situation because the NHL loves having powerhouse teams and dynasties. Don't tell me the Blues winning was in their marketing plans, especially with no true superstar to pimp from that team.

If Kucherov was healthy 2 months ago, his salary would have counted against the cap because he was able to play in the regular season, and that would have meant there's no chance of acquiring David Savard, and they probably have to lose another player to be cap compliant this year. As it stands, the team has extra high priced forwards that no other team in the league has. That's an unequal playing field, and it's antithetical to the reasons for having a cap.

#### this ####.

Let's go Panthers.

Creative stuff from the Lightning Dolts.

Though in their position I'd try and do the same. Anything for the prize right.

We really don’t know that he wasn’t.

This is hard to deny. Were any of us upset when Sutter signed Kipper to a contract that had 8.5 mill in the first year and 1.5 in the last?

Not really.

Saying the league should fix the loophole is different than saying they shouldn't have done it

player movement is exciting anyway, they need to force teams to actually be cap compliant

The solution to me is simple: players earn playoff eligibility by counting against the cap for a certain period of time.

Simplest is the number of days from TDL to end of season (this year it would only be ~33, normally it's in the low 40's). It doesn't have to be those exact days, but as long as you've counted against the cap that many days at some point that season, you're eligible.

That's a little light though; I'd like at least a 1 to 1 ratio to earn PO games. Seasons are usually around 187 days. 28/82 is 34.1% of the season, so I'd make it so you had to be counting on the cap for 64 days to be eligible to play all 28 possible playoff games.

Of course, I don't think anybody's every gone to game 7 all 4 series; so if you're that close to the cap (and find yourself with an injured player), maybe you only go for 24 games of eligibility (55 days). Would be an interesting little wrinkle to capology.

Kills the TDL, which probably hurts rebuilding teams more than it helps them.

Green text? You do know the cap is accrued daily...it's not crazy complicated, but it's kinda complicated.

If you're not cheating then you're not trying hard enough.

But players don't count for their full cap hit for every day of the season... they count against the cap on a daily rate. Are you going to change that rate for the playoffs or pro-rate the length of the playoffs?

The salary cap works in the regular season because every team has the same length of season. That's not the case in the playoffs.

They're not very bright, at least they could make it look good and sit Kucherov for the first game.

Has anyone even tried to look at the facts of the other side?

People here seem very made up in their mind without actually looking into it.

Look into what? that Kucherov has been practicing for 2 months and is miraculously ready to play when he doesn't count against the cap.

You can change my mind with the "facts" though

I contacted their Doctors and am perusing their Medical Files as we speak....

I must say, based on these reports its either a miracle or a remarkable coincidence...

It'll be funny when Kucherov goes back on LTIR to start next season.

They'll be doing something like that, 17 players signed and $5m over the cap already for 21/22

Trade deadline shouldn't be a concern since it doesn't generate money for the NHL in the US. In Canada it gets attention because it's shoved down our throats and we eat it up. No one down there really gives a #### about the NHL trade deadline.

And even still, just because of that doesn't mean that teams should be allowed to exceed the cap then, because you're getting this situation where the cap doesn't really exist if you can manipulate the rules into your favour to actually exceed the cap and have more superstar players than what it intends for.

I feel the system should be fairly simple and straightforward. You're team's cap for the season as a whole is something you have to comply with every day your team has an active ongoing season. Player's AAV is the only thing that matters. Regular season or post season, you have to ice a roster that is within the limit. Offseason and preseason you can be over.

NHL GM's will be cleaver enough to make big deals around the deadline since they're desperate enough to make dumb moves for instant chance of improvement.
