With the absence of games and opportunities to evaluate this year, no one has any idea how the top group of players really stacks up. This is the kind of year where it's a realistic possibility that a player drafted 20th could be the best in the draft.
So.. I'll take progression under Darryl going into next season and rolling over the team that had your number earlier.

I think its disingenuous to say one game dropped them 5 spots anyway...the Flames were only so low because they have played the 2nd least games in the NHL. What team has lost their final 7 games?
Yesterday "Flames have a little something on the line guaranteed loss so Flames"
Today "Flames winning when it ruins their draft positions picking 15th now (Once in franchise history) so Flames"
And if you don't think 15 points in 12 games has at least helped Gaudreau's value you are crazy

And as has pointed out by others before, going into the off season with our assets performing and upping trade value is huge.
If someone like Gaudreau ends up trades this off season, his performance is more important than the few draft spots.

Edmonton is welcome to suck into oblivion after they sweep the Habs.
2 wins on goals from their scrubs and 0 McDavid points. Let's go.

#### it... I hope the oilers lose every game from here on out the rest of the year.
Even if we make playoffs, this team ain’t going anywhere, and truly, we aren’t beating Vancouver 4 straight

Lol if Edmonton keeps us alive, and all that stands between us and POs is Vancouver, then I see no excuse not to take all those games.
Markstrom would relish that opportunity and our top players are flying.

Yep, I think the 4 Flames wins against the on fumes Canucks are more likely than the 2 Oilers wins needed
It would be at least nice to make the league wait around lol...Flames should have seen this schedule as a slap in the face. FFS they couldn't win a couple more games along the way to guarantee the Canucks series meant something

Yeah, I’m not counting on the Oilers to do what we need them to do, but, IF that happens, and Vancouver loses against a Winnipeg team desperate to turn around a terrible stretch, we’ll be playing a team with nothing to play for, and playing the end of the most exhausting stretch any team has ever played in the NHL. 7 games in 10 days. All 4 of our games have us playing them, them playing their 3rd game in the last 4 nights. Only the final game applies in that category for us, but Vancouver will be playing their 4th in 5 nights, and 7th in 10. They will be exhausted.
Even in those circumstances, beating the same team 4 times in a row will be tough, but it shouldn’t be considered impossible.

Do you really think adding a few points in a late season meaningless game actually increases a players trade value, especially when that player has played many seasons.

Oh please. No one has any idea at all?
Why have a scouting staff then?
Ask someone like Sandman or FCAV what they think about any of the draft eligible prospects. They'll be able to give you an impressively well-though out analysis. These insights aren't based off of nothing.
Most of the first round prospects have played 30 or so games. And this excludes the samples from last year and the year before.
There is definitely "an idea" of who is good and who isn't.
And the difference between 8th overall and 12th overall is probably a late 1st or high 2nd, although I realize this is entirely conjecture. What is certain is that every win removes considerable draft capital.
Conroy is on record saying that they actually have more video for the prospects this year than ever before. So he is actually more familiar with many of them.
With all that said. I also realize that there's really no point in cheering for losses. As fans, we have no control over any of this. It's more fun to cheer for wins. So that's what we might as well do.
It's especially easy to be happy with a 6-1 win. Even if you're a pessimist, at least guys like Gaudreau increased their trade value after a night like that.
If I'm not mistaken, Calgary, Vancouver, and LA are the only teams that have yet to be eliminated from playoff contention. This is kind of surprising, because the Flames playoff chances have been almost non-existent for the better part of two months.

I don't think NHL GM's are short sighted enough to ignore an almost ppg career and rely on one season to gauge a player's worth. Gaudreau putting up points down the stretch certainly doesn't hurt but I don't think the Flyers or other eastern teams have just decided over the past few weeks that Johnny Gaudreau is a pretty good hockey player. If anything teams are probably looking at a roster with some pretty good forwards that have been devalued playing Gulutan/Ward hockey for 3.5 seasons.

I mean... we've had about 4-5 of these "scenarios" over the last month and just about every time the team came out "not-flying" and #### the bed.
This team is not good, I don't think squeaking into the playoffs is going to do ANYTHING good for this franchise in the long term. We need to get away from this mediocre hockey we've witnessed over the last decade+ and fix the problems.
I'm tired of this mentality from the team, this is why we're no good.
Not good enough to win
Not bad enough to win a good draft pick.
Just float in the mediocrity and continue to fail.
I want one or the other here, that's the only way were going to fix this.

There are always risers and fallers (including those that get bumped from the second tier to first tier group) over a full draft year season, even with notable movement from the midway point of the season to the draft. They might say they have a ton of tape and they probably do, but its likely footage that's a bit dated or based on limited play. The point of longer/full seasons that is useful is seeing which players get into a groove and figure it out and which burn out or can't sustain their high level of play that might be achieved over a smaller sample size. The rankings could absolutely look different had this year been played out like normal.

Sorry, I assume that you were talking about the last game, especially with respect to Tkachuk, who had scored 9 points in his last 20 games (prior to his 3 points last night).

If we were ever unsure that the same people always complain, yesterday proved it.
If we lose: Flames suck, no heart, trade everyone, fire the coach, and fire the GM.
If we win: Flames are stupid, ruining draft slot, only win when it doesn't matter, etc...
Literally the same posters.

100%
Also, this draft does not have the top end talent that even comes close to 2022 and 2023. Those are the years to be the suckiest of the sucks. If we can snag Pinelli, Chibrikov, or McTavish, any one of them could be better than guys picked in the top 10.
Heck maybe we trade down in the 1st round and pickup another 3rd or something.
