The Flames are playing a really interesting game in the offensive zone. Less on the boards, more scissors, way more play at the top and middle of the zone. Good to see them trying some new things after getting practice time.

Even that projection is suspect because of the lack of games in the minors, etc. This draft is a real crap shoot, and I’m betting there will be plenty of players in the bottom half of round one that surpass the top half.

Well no one is trading down from Shane Wright.
Either way, the higher your draft pick the higher its trade value too.
Winning this game is by far the most Flames thing ever. I'm not even mad. Just numb.

Didn't Boston have 3 first's one year, or do you mean swapping firsts from different seasons?

All the top talents played their share of games. Some just played in Europe or USA instead of the OHL.
I think the depth of this draft is affected by the lack of games, not the top end.

You expected them to lose 7 straight? Seems like you are just looking for things to be mad about.
Winning a game is the most Flames thing ever?

Agreed. They’d obviously have to package up a few things to get wright... both of the firsts next year (assuming we acquire an extra) + the Bedard draft first round pick is probably the bare minimum starting point and likely includes a couple stud prospects/ young roster players

Pretty much everyone has played a good number of games except the OHL players.
The recent U18 tournament just added even more of a sample size.
If there's anywhere in the draft that isn't a crapshoot, it's the area the Flames are hovering around.
As for losing 7 in a row, that wasn't going to happen.
But a loss to Ottawa is more important than a loss to Vancouver because Ottawa is ahead in point percentage.

Ya they were never going to lose 7 in a row. And the Flames do win games, not as many as most NHL franchises, but they do win games.

Winning a 4pt game that directly affects draft positioning to a team that has kicked their ass all year
And I'm not mad. I was merely responding to someone devaluing draft picks and overvaluing winning this gamd.

This team wasn't meant to lose this game with the roster that was iced today. It is not the player's job to lose games on purpose. That's at the GM position, or at least the coaches. Players may have bad games, but it is their job to play as best as they can.
When you see Gaudreau and Markstrom scratched, then you know this team is trying for a better pick.

Well if that’s the case then it doesn’t matter where the flames pick. The team ahead of them will get the all star.

I'm gonna say no matter what realistic trade one tries to make, the team with the #1 overall is not gonna trade it.
When was the last time it was traded, and how much did it cost?
I think if you're wanting to get it, at minimum you'll have to have a top 3 pick already as it is. And then you'll need to include the follow three seasons first round picks. And keep in mind the position of those following first round picks are unknown. They could be early, or late in the first round.
Unless they're a home run next Gretzky/McDavid, why would any team give up that much to get the pick? And then the other side of the equation is if the team has a generational player they can pick with their #1 overall, why would they trade it?

I don’t see the management or coaching throwing in the towel till they are mathematically eliminated.

Yup. Even if the players did want to tank ( they don’t ) the same would be true for Vancouver. No matter the situation there is very little chance flames loose all 4 games to Vancouver. Them being in the bottom 8 isn’t very realistic.
