Lucic got suspended for punching a guy in the face that was standing up and facing him after hacking the goalie
How can they justify that being a suspension but this isn't? Ovi isn't on the Flames?
Washington better be careful the Rangers don't have anything to lose here.

Big statement from a big club. I wonder how the NHL responds.

Great on the Rangers. They need it to take it a step further and sue the NHL.

This has the potential to get very bad tomorrow.
If I was the Capitals I would not dress Wilson. But it may not matter...

If anything bad happens next game, got to think it falls squarely on Parros’ shoulders

Part of the problem is, for some unknown reason, most of the people running the department of "player safety" have been guys who were tough guys/goons/#thatshockey types who were more likely to hurt another player than be the one getting hurt.
Why not put a guy who was on the other end of horrible career-ending injuries in charge of player safety? What's Marc Savard doing these days?

For who or by who? The NHL is a fringe league at best right and has lagged behind its peers in the "big 4" for decades now. So other than the few Capitals fans out there, who is going to mock that statement?
The Tom Wilsons are exactly why the NHL isn't growing, because the casual fan doesn't care about the "code". They care about a fast paced, skilled game. Which is what the game should be billed as. Not that roughing garbage. The rest of us can reminisce about that stuff. Just the way the NFL and NBA fans have. Time for the NHL to move on.

At this point it’s just unionized job protection.
Have the guys who made a career playing that role run the pension programs or something. Since those guys should be most concerned about and experienced with the results of financial planning (short careers, no superstar money). I was good the pure knuckle chucker role being allowed to gracefully bow out… but we’re there now. They shouldn’t be running the dept. of player safety ffs.

The reality is you don't want anyone who was on either end of the spectrum adjudicating these affairs. No goons and no injury prone guys. What you want is a halfway intelligent guy who was relatively durable and tough to play against, but not dirty in any way.
My vote goes for the recently retired Justin Williams.

Tons of people like tough hard hitting hockey and I think it does sell the game.
This was not tough hard hitting hockey.

Love hard hitting hockey. If anything, fighting ruins that too.
Imagine seeing a big clean hit in the neutral zone and having play continue. A man can dream.

I wonder if the Rangers might lose all their fancy composite sticks and have to use old pieces of lumber for a game?

Engelland just retired. I don’t think he was suspended since playing for the Pens. Certainly a better fit than Parros.

Trying to figure out who the Rangers could dress that could answer Wilson and there is not much there since Brendan Lemieux was dealt.
