As for your first point, nah, that came later
I think Sutter helped in his last half dozen games put Sam in the right direction, and Q inherited a guy with renewed focus
I think people here are neglecting the difference the good coach makes. I don’t expect you see a Q team become a plodding cerebral team, playing without pace and focus. It’s probably a simple team to play with, when you can trust your teammates to be playing the right way

Bennett picks up his first goal against (5v5) as a Panther on a poor line change by Barkov et al

Whoa what the hell were Duclair and Barkov doing on that change. Yikes.
Bennett finally gets hit with a minus.

It was super, duper, crazy, lazy. No chance for the guys changing to do anything to get into the play.
That's really rare from Barkov. He's very responsible. He'll probably talk to himself tonight about that.
But let's be real. These are tune-up games for the playoffs. I don't think they're going all out the way they normally would.

Saying that 10 games after a trade, one that involves future picks, is premature at best.
Don't re-phrase my points. If you are going to call back to my points use my actual words instead of your inaccurate interpretation of them that you are using to make your pot shot.
You have a hard time understanding that someone can have a different opinion that you by saying things like "because it seems to be obviously correct".
Right now the trade doesn't look good for the Flames. Lots of time ahead though before that can be said with such certainty.
And to be clear I have no horse in the race. Sam always seemed like a great kid. I hope he does incredibly well and makes millions. And I hope the Flames draft a star with that pick.
|
Well, I view it like this
- we can look at the multi year tenure and we know with certainty what the Flames got out of him. That book is closed, and what they got is known with certainty
- the Flames did not put him in a regular top 6 role or use him on special teams
- they saw him be effective in the playoffs with stable linemates
- they still put him bottom 6
- he has been a noticeable positive contributor and difference maker in Florida in the role the Flames didn’t give him
The Flames did not get in 7 years much at all out of their top ever pick. Florida has easily shown that there is more there.
Q called it a home run
They blew it.
Fine, call it extreme. You are right. I don’t care. It’s right.

Oh definitely. Barkov is a beast.
and just like that…Barkov makes up for it.
The difference between drafting 2nd and 6th…Barkov to Monahan…yeah…
I wish Ekblad wasn’t hurt.
Ekblad, Barkov, Huberdeau, Bennett, Knight, Bobrovsky (assuming he delivers come playoff time)…and a young Tippett, alongside Lundell making his way. I really like this Panthers team.

Having a coach who sees your skills and believes in your abilities has to be huge! That and the fact that Sam is playing with better players. How many times did Sam pass to a Flames team-mate and they would completely miss or mess it up. Flames still do that on occasion but Bennett seems to be connecting better in Florida.

Barkov is a unicorn as he is elite across several dimensions of the game. A poor man's Crosby if you will.
Has been my favorite non Flame for a while. I love elite two way players.

And he's still employed by the flames? Or at least recently was a scout right or adviser or some ####? Embarrassing...

Don't forget Weegar. Guy is basically 2014 Giordano coming out of nowhere and being the best D in the league

I dont think so. His brother is the head Amateur Scout though. And he's been really really good.

That was Craig Button. We employ his brother Tod, who had a hand in the drafting of guys like Bennett, Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Brodie, Backlund, Ferland, Dube, Tkachuk, etc. Tod's been good at his job for over a decade.

LMAO. Wow, that last move by Duclair after the setup by Barkov was insane.

Woah...now Tippett scores to put them up 5-2. Primary assist from Bennett.
