I cheer for the party in the back and logo on the front

With Tkachuk and Bennett being friends, I will never understand why we didn't try Tkachuk-Bennett-X as a line for an extended time. When we first traded for Lindy I was extremely excited to try Tkachuk-Bennett-Lindholm but it never really got a chance.

If you think you're nitpicking, then you are.
They got a 2nd and a good prospect back, and you're complaining about sending a 6 round pick back? C'mon.
Net gain.

I remember when Tkachuk was drafted I thought he was the perfect compliment to Bennett and Tkachuk-Bennett would be line 1a-b and the Gaudreau-Monahan line would be the other.
I was a fan of Bennett because he still played with bite. Big hits and fights but bad penalties and not enough scoring. It sucks because I remember cheering with joy when the Oilers passed over Sam to take Draisaitl. Had the Oil gone with Bennett leaving Draisaitl for the Flames how different things would be for both franchises.

He'd be the #2C on the Flames.

Guess Ryan is now the whipping boy now that Bennett is gone? LOL
Ryan is actually OK IMO. Just wished he was a big center with a right hand shot.

Rittich trade - sad. Bennett trade for 2nd round pick - happy.
So, the two cancelled each other out - feeling indifferent for the time being.

Well maybe MT should have been a friend to Sam and advised him to play better, not take dumb penalties that cost the team and keep his mouth shut about wanting out of town.

Get Eichel? I don't know, it isn't like he said he would trade Tkachuk just to get rid of him. Tkachuk probably because it will be hard to get something better than him.

Lindholm was too good on the first line, it also started the quick downhill progression of Neal. Lost his top RW spot and floated into being trash.

I would hardly call my post complaining but ok.
There doesn't seem to be a ton of consensus that the prospect returned is any good. I think Jiri noted he wasn't even on some scouts pre-draft lists.
I think it's fair to analyze the deal in it's entirety. Treliving has a pretty well documented history of trading away mid to late round picks and our weak prospect pool is evidence of that history.
I don't think it's the end of the world that he traded away a 6th round pick, I just simply think the Flames are in no position to be trading away draft picks at any level. I don't think that's a very controversial take.

Have to give Brad Treliving credit. Heck of haul for just Bennett and Rittich. I will say, he’s done some good work as a seller today and in years past.

Calgary wouldn't be in this situation with more Derek Ryans

I remember an interview with Treliving a while ago where he was discussing the analytics team for the Flames. He didn't discuss how they do their analytics, but he did mention that every team member gets a score at the end of the game for their contribution to the game that doesn't show up on a score sheet.
The interviewer asked him which player's score surprised him the most. He said Derek Ryan. When asked to expand he said that Ryan does so many little things that affect the flow of the game in a positive way, and that while he doesn't get the big goals, or throw the big hits, he makes the most positive impact given his ice time of any of the players.
When he was injured earlier in the year, this team missed his presence dearly. I don't know if they plan to bring him back at a reduced salary, but I'd be fine with it for a 1 or 2 year deal. The guy is valuable in limited minutes.

It is controversial and nitpicky when the 6th-round pick that was spent was in a deal that returned a 2nd-round pick.
