I think we must think 3-4 years for collecting draft picks and young assets to build true contender.
I would trade Monahans, Hahifins for the 2022 draft picks or even 2023 draft picks. Take high draft pick with money dump for a year.
Other teams may give up 1st rounder for 2022 easier as they may think they can resell the players if the trade doesn't work.
Next season bring your best prospects and evaluate them.
But now they must sell all Ufa and Bennett for draft pick or some b prospects.

Johnny, Monahan, and Gio all with 50% retained. Rittich and Ryan. Retool or die!
Please Tre, don’t miss this golden opportunity to sell.

I’m a big fan of his, seems like a great character guy. Maybe he doesn’t want to be a #1 somewhere. But I’d be surprised if he didn’t.
I’d be sad to see him go but I see those two guys as hot items for playoff teams.

[QUOTE=CliffFletcher;7804505]Because key members of that core:
A) Can’t score when faced with tight checking.
B) Got complacent and didn’t adapt their game.
C) Can’t score when tasked with being responsible defensively.
Let’s not forget this incident...many have warned and insinuated regarding their “off ice behaviours”
This is the best league in the world. You can’t be more interested in the blackjack table at cowboys then improving your game and expect to improve as you get older

Hanifin is worth more than a random first rounder in 2-3 years

We are not doubling down everybody should be available. We do not have a number one C, LW, RW or a number one defenceman. Sounds like we need to tank for 3 to 4 years. We have a pipeline of exciting 3rd and 4th liners.
I also disagree that this team is in a better position now than when Tre took over. We had a quality pipeline of Monahan, Johnny, young Backlund, and Brody, etc

We have 2 #1 LW's, and I would probably trade them both for a true #1C.

Calgary has made just five first-round picks since Treliving took over in 2014.
List of teams to have made fewer:
PIT - 2
TB - 4
-end-

That’s 5 out of 7 years, likely 6 out of 8 after this years draft.
He traded 2, including 1 for Hamilton.
Talk about hyperbole.
And the two teams on your list have both won cups during those years, so I am unsure as to your correlation.

Probably that both won Cups during that stretch. Calgary misjudged their nearness to contention.

I think what he's getting at is that the two teams that have made fewer 1st round picks are somewhat justified given they won Stanley Cups in the time frame and have been annual contenders. The Flames have been make the playoffs, miss the playoffs, make the playoffs, miss the playoffs. Not exactly the results you are looking for when you are trading your 1st round picks at a higher rate than every other team save for two teams that have won stanley cups 3 of the past 5 years. If you look at the Flames, Penguins, and Lighting it's pretty clear one of the three teams has been doing it wrong.

But they traded two first round picks. One of which was a superb trade. The other terrible. The post implied that he’s giving them out like candy. And I wonder how many other teams have traded 2 first round picks during that time.

What is it with 2nd round picks included? Or even 3rd rounders added?
I feel like we’re bottom 5 with drafting top 100 picks since since BT’s tenure.

He’s pretty even on later picks. People keep forgetting the picks he accumulated with Hudler, Glencross, Baertschi, etc.

Maybe it’s just almost never having a 2nd that is haunting me.

The Flames made no second-round picks in 2017, 2018, or 2019.
They made just one third-round pick between 2015 and 2018.

Hyperbole - I don't think this word means what you think it does.
This is literally the opposite of a hyperbole. It is a statistical fact of the two teams who have had less 1sts

This is what killed us, a lack of injecting talent into the roster and relying on the Leivos of the world
