They might be, but a sober look at their division would suggest that they're probably not getting out of it, even if they do buy at the deadline. There's a decent chance they stand pat or maybe even sell.

A sober look at their history would dictate that being in a playoff spot is a rarity and they will not squander this by selling despite the fact their number 1 D is injured.

I don’t think so personally. Based on their overall lack of success as a franchise I can’t see them standing pat. If anything this puts them in a position to add a rental Dman.

I wouldn’t disagree with you if we were talking about different franchises but it would be like the Oilers becoming sellers of Nurse goes down. They need to push forward for a playoff spot.

Teams like Edmonton, Buffalo, and Florida have been such tire fires that they would need to push forward if they are in a playoff spot by double digit points.

Yeah, with Ekblad out I could see them not loading up but cannot see them selling.

Maybe. Gio went down just before the deadline in 15, the Flames stood pat and still made it.

Last year, Giordano was still pretty great. But there has been a pretty significant drop off this season. I would definitely trade him for a 1st, especially because I would definitely expose him for the expansion draft.

They're servicable on the left side:
Weegar-???
Forsling-Stralman
Yandle-Gudas
Nutivaara (LHS who seems to play either side, but he's injury prone)

PK Subban is playing 22 mins a night. 6/8M have already been paid in signing bonus, so it's only the pro-rated cash on 2M. Another 6M signing bonus +2M next year though. Would be tough to fit his cap in next year.

David Savard, Montour, Ristolainen, Colin Miller, maybe Vatanen? Not a lot of RD available.

Zaitsev or Tanev if they'll go long term...

If Florida would take 100 % of Gio contract I would trade him for a 2nd round pick

They are also seeing record attendance this season

I think Florida makes it without any moves but I see no chance they shift to sell mode.

2015 Flames are not the best comparable. They were not double digit points ahead of the team chasing them. That Flames team was in year 2 of a rebuild so that entire season was found money.

This Florida team is in year 2 with a super expensive coach and their franchise player and captain has one more year before he is a UFA. They desire to win now should be much larger in Florida and for this franchise a first round appearance would be a great success story considering they have so rarely done so over their history.

Because Gio has term next year, he will be hard to move. Florida would likely be interested except for that.

I can’t find that info. I would have assumed they were only allowing a limited amount of fans into the game.

Florida definitely wouldn’t give up playoff revenue just because ekblad got hurt. But not getting big playoff revenue this year so no way they should be buyers
