Stone had just about his pick of teams he could go to. I doubt he chose Vegas for the living conditions in the city.

I disagree.

End of the day most players do not live year round where they play. Stone likely lives in the Vegas area from September-April/June and spends the hottest months likely back in Canada.

The players mostly all live in Summerlin which seems like a paradise to live in and is only 20 min from the rink.

I think Stone chose Vegas for several reasons. McCrimmon was a huge reason, the fact they are one of the best live experiences in the league, no state tax, great city to be in for off days.

For me Vegas is 100% my retirement goal in terms of becoming a snowbird.

Happens today to make most sense for STL as they don't play again until Apr 2.

STL needs to upgrade their back up, even though they're 6-3-1 despite Husso's .885 3.40.

Their D is thin right now, especially on the right side...Stone or Nesterov would actually be pretty helpful right now (and depth down the stretch).

Ryan is a cheaper sub for Bozak who hasn't been very good (injuries?).

Thomas is having a bad year (injuries?), but he's a pretty decent bet for a #1C. By the time he fully blooms, STL will be at the end of their window.

We can flip Hoffman at 50% for at least a 2nd+3rd (if not a cond. 1st), and maybe Bozak for a 4th/5th.

Sundqvist is a big RHS RW/C signed for 2 more years after this at 2.75.

STL has already traded their 2nd+4th this year, so they'd probably prefer to bump it by a year. they can protect the pick if they want.

Maybe we take Steen's expiring contract if it helps, too.

Tkachuk-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Dube-Monahan-Thomas
Lucic-Backlund-Sundqvist

Slide Thomas to C once we trade one of ours.

Perron-ROR-Kyrou
Gaudreau-Schenn-Tarasenko
Sanford-Schwartz-Blais
Clifford-Ryan-??

This falls apart b/c STL doesn't have a good replacement at 3C. Maybe you have to take Bozak out of the deal. Probably not going to see multi-player trades like this, anyways.

Yeah imagine it being so hot you need to spend the day in your awesome pool lol.

Christ it's almost April and we have a -19 wind chill

Vegas is a top 5 destination for players it's not even debatable. Calgary not so much. Players love the setup in Vegas, they don't live on the strip or in the hood.

You can't be using the words (or I guess anything similar to) "has to happen now to make sense" in trade proposals or it instantly becomes a meme.

Lol ya. I was originally building it around Tkachuk, but swapped in Gaudreau at the last minute.

Meh, I think there could be a fit with STL since they are so banged up but undoubtedly in win now mode

These guys live in palatial estates where pools and AC are never a concern. If you care about outdoor experience and culture, hop in the convertible, cruise down route 15 for a few hours, and enjoy your weekend in Southern California.

Hard to find things not to like about living in Vegas as a pro athlete and playing for a legitimate contender to boot. Comparing it to Calgary it’s not even kind of close.

From May until September it certainly isnt. Its unbearable unless you are acclimatized. When it goes down to 88 (31C) at night...its just to hot.

Great spot for snowbirds though, i will agree.

Ive actually stayed out in the burbs in Vegas and it was really quite nice. The lack of real grass sucks, but its a super easy city to get around in, very affordable, and so many things to do beyond the strip and casinos. In fact I prefer the off strip places a whole lot more. Places where the locals go to have a drink and/or play are often a whole lot of fun. It sure doesnt hurt that they seem to like Canadians a lot as well.

Its a pretty cosmopolitan place actually and those claiming its mostly "lower end housing" is just plain wrong. World class dining if that's your thing, tons of recreation both indoor and out. Entertainment choices like no where in the world. Downtown is like from another world at night.

Of course it has its "bad" areas like ANY city does, but no more than most from what I have experienced.

I’ve been there plenty May to December. It doesn’t take much to get used to. And it’s not far to higher elevations either. Anyway, NHL players make enough dough to get away whenever they feel like it.

Yeah NHL players care about what the weather and city is like from September-May for where they play.

For June-August you'll usually just hear about most players going back to where they grew up no matter where they are playing during the season.

What more would attract young players then world class dinning and endless entertainment options?

Many of the players live out in Summerlin which is home to the practice rink with an easy, convenient 15 minute drive via the 215 to the T Mobil. A city where winter tires are not even a consideration and easy enough to blend in with everyone else. I stalked Max Pacoriety through Downtown Summerlin (a shopping center) for more then 30 minutes, not one person acknowledged him at all. It seemed as if he was just killing time while waiting for his wife, same as me.

Outside of the Strip, there is more them enough to keep you busy and out of trouble. Some cool trails to hike out in Red Rock Canyon, a trip to Mt Charleston and boating in Lake Mead if you are into outdoor activities. And an endless list of year round golf courses to hit up. Our family has a place there and you can find so much to do outside of walking the strip, gambling and clubbing.

Having a winter home in vegas and a summer palace in muskoka or somewhere similar (IIRC Stone is from Manitoba, so maybe lake of the woods) seems like a pretty ideal set up.

Quite the contrary. Florida will be buying. This is a playoff team. Clearly in the market for a defenseman who can eat minutes.

What a ridiculous comment. They are 11pts up on the 4th and 5th place teams in the division.

Looks like Florida is in big time buyer mode

They won’t be buying unless it’s a long term edition. I would be shocked if they traded picks for rentals for sure
