Does Diane Francis really have that much pull in the media that this guy gets a job for life? It's tough to take that people that are good at their jobs get let go and this hack sticks around like a bad rash.

Sounds like the big show doesn’t start until 2pm on Monday and Loubardias is on at 2:30 daily now. I wonder if they are giving Rintool 4 hours now?

worst thing about Steinberg is for one thing we get way too much of him. number two he yells like a Mattress commercial. Three he says "Im curious or I'm fascinated" twice every show. He says "good stuff" every show. He calls every guest "my friend" or "man". It comes across as very un-natural and stale , even for radio...the rest of the afternoon show is miserable. Logan? wow. Nault? no good. They all do that kind of struggling for words things like it such a deep reply to whatever the topic. My last rant is that the show producers have to tell these guys to stop repeating what they say 3 times (Well it seems the Flames are in trouble now, and with so few games left, well like I said the Flames are in trouble). There I feel better. I love Pinder.

I think you're looking into the "my friend/man" thing too much. He has had the same core group of Overtime callers for like a decade now and he knows a bunch of them in person at this point. I think Steinberg is fine though overall personally.
Your other points stand though. I can't believe they dumped Klein and Deforest over Nault. Gordon isn't great, but Nault is on an Oilers level of no-good.

The Eric Francis effect: after the last Flames game, a caller to Overtime said the Flames should just trade Gaudreau to Philly since that where he wants to be. Steinberg lightly pushed back saying he’s never heard that. The caller claims Gaudreau has openly said he wants to play in Philly.
Eric Francis had said that so much now that people are starting to believe Gaudreau has said it. Crazy.

This strikes me as very nit picky. Every human being has idiosyncrasies, it’s kind of human nature. I wonder what yours would be?
Meanwhile, Francis is close to right about Gaudreau. But it’s tough to hear for Flames fans. So makes sense he takes heat for speaking pretty close to the truth about him. Dude is massively overrated and the time to cash in on him was at least a month ago and every day that ticks by simply reduces his value.

He did say it, but probably not in the context the caller is thinking.

Between Loubo and Nault, I can no longer stomach it and fight through in hopes to hear some mediocre radio coverage. I'll continue to thoroughly enjoy the Morning Show, and listen to Pinder in the 9 and also Rintoul, but that's it.
Kirsche, do something, you're losing listeners.

It certainly seems that most of the broadcast day is scheduled to eliminate the clock. Lou is terrible but cheap and he is a minute eater as they say in hockey. I used to teach English and the school warned us to avoid trying to fall into the trap of killing the hour rather than plan things to teach. Most of the noon and afternoon show is designed to kill time rather than present content. Thus Lou is gold.

The Vancouver moves are partly driven by the availability of hosts who had better ratings with TSN 1040 before Bell shut all the Western Canada TSNs down a few weeks ago--Sportsnet has hired a few of them and Walker is a casualty.
He's maintained his connection with 960 with the Sarcastic Player Profile bits and I wouldn't mind seeing him back, maybe with Boomer in the morning like some have suggested. I used to listen to him when 590 in Toronto had Brady & Walker--he didn't always give the MLSE take on their teams and it was fun to listen to when those teams were bad.

I heard Francis on Friday and to be honest I thought most of what he said is bang on.
I personally can’t see Johnny putting this team on his back and I don’t see him as much more than 70 point guy -which still makes him a solid NHL’r,but he will likely never consistently be a dominant force on a regular basis.
Eric also clearly stated that in his opinion he thought Johnny has a small chance of staying here. He also noted that it has been a while since Johnny talked about wanting to stay here, which of course is the classic line many athletes spew.
Lastly, I also think that there is likely a large group of fans who call into overtime who will be disappointed in what the flames get for Johnny if they ever trade him.

I hadn't moved back to Calgary yet during the Boomer & Walker years so I missed that era, but even hearing Walker on the sarcastic player profile and the odd guest spot on 960, I can totally see how those 2 would play off each other well.
I love how Boomer/Warrener/Pinder are back together again, but if Pinder gets moved back to afternoons with Steinberg again to make up for the loss of Klein, I'd be interested in hearing Boomer & Walker in the mornings. Was Rhett on there with them back in the day?

Francis pays for at least some of his own spots with ads for his own side businesses.

The problem with Francis is he speaks in absolutes all the time... implying that he KNOWS the inside scoop on it all. He's been proven wrong enough, it's obvious he doesn't have an inside track on sweet FA. Even after being shot down and blown to bits by Pinder a couple weeks ago, he comes back with the exact same narrative.
If he he could just tone down his smug arrogance a little bit and state his opinion without trying to come across like he's such a know it all insider, he might be a little more tolerable.

To be fair Walker is an Oiler fan but is professional enough to park his fandom.
Too many broadcasters who can’t do this fail to see how it makes them look like a joke to anyone capable of critical thought inside and outside their “favourite team’s” fanbase.
If they can’t do it or don’t like being viewed as a joke, find a different job. It’s like owning a coffee shop and not being able to get up in the morning to open up for customers.
