Well that sucks. Klein and Deforest were great.

Sign of the times. Not many industries that aren’t doing the same thing. But radio and TV sports broadcasting seems to be whittled down to the bone.

Klein was actually one of my favourites to listen to and I’m pretty disappointed to see him go. Hopefully he lands on his feet with a better opportunity somewhere else.

How much could those guys possibly make, 40-50k? Klein I could see, but deforest is actually a contributor to the highly rated morning show.......they were just talking about how deforest bought a new car....Kelly kirsch is a cold mfer...

Don't they get leased cars for blabbing about them on the radio? Seems they always have time for a quick plug about their new car from such and such a dealership...and the room in the back for the kids ect.

^ Yeah I was listening and thought that too. Job losses suck, plain and simple. It has to be especially tough on these guys knowing how much money Rogers has spent on the Jays roster and is cutting away at the bottom on those just trying to make a living. I know that Pinder has addressed in the last few months, seemingly with every signing the Jays made and at the same time Deforest's hours being cut. I believe he was down to 3 days a week producing the morning show.
One other thing, as tough as a job loss is to take, it can sometimes come as a relief. It they anticipated or knew cuts were coming, that can be a tough working environment. When my oilfield job disappeared, I could tell it was coming as lay offs had been on going for a couple years before it was my turn, and those two years were not fun.

I understand that some changes might be coming as far as programming?
No longer will the 9 o'clock hour be Pinders. Apparently Rintool will be taking on a female co-host and they will run from 9-1. Eliminating two hours of strictly local programming.
Not sure it moved the needle one way or another but explains the layoffs yesterday (Klein at least, though i think that is a massive mistake by Rogers). Someone cheaper slides into the morning producers slot and Nault and Steinberg handle the afternoons I guess.
I know for myself i will still catch the mornings when i can but past that? Not sure my radio will land on 960 any other time.

Add me to the 'disappointed Deforest is gone' category. That sucks.
I guess when Rogers spends $27B on Shaw, you need to cut $125K in salaries to pay for it.
Lame.

tough part for these guys is that there are so few jobs in the current broadcast industry and with their departure being public, we will likely never hear how things worked out in the long term for them.
i hope that everyone that has lost their jobs over the past year finds something.

I am wondering, I cancelled my sat radio years ago, is that and internet radio carving into local station’s markets? The NHL radio station was never that good, and they were obsessed with eastern based US teams, even teams like Anaheim were not really covered.

Sirius NFL radio is by far the best daily sports radio show I have heard but to be fair it’s full of A-listers in every segment. I probably listen to it more than anything else on satellite radio. NHL radio doesn’t even compare but no sport seems to retain fan interest 365 days a year like the NFL.
