I would try and trade him and leave him unprotected but to just toss his entire career in the garbage can because of a #### year at 37 and basically put the season on him is stupid. Can't blame Ward anymore though.

I never called him the worst ever, never even called him bad, so calm down. The team right now is playing like crap and the captain is not exactly helping so he is open to criticism. That's what happens when you are an athlete getting paid millions, people expect results not a lot of excuses.

The Patriots won because they had the best QB of all time...its pretty obviously now. Bill will never win again IMO.

We are talking about it because someone did call in the worst captain in team history and then doubled and tripled down on it, you must have missed that part.

Gio has been awesome for Calgary over time. Crapping on him is poor form. Was anyone honestly wondering when they signed that contract if he would be good for all of it? Obviously not. Didn’t he win a Norris? He was worth what he made and he’s been a warrior for Calgary.

Way, way, way, way bigger issues facing this club and franchise than Mark Giordano. Just no.

We're not talking about whether or not Gio has been bad. We're talking about an idiot who claimed he's the worst captain the Flames history and suggested the team needs to take the captaincy away.

I guess if you are always negative you will probably be right in a league where 30 teams out of 31 lose each year...congrats on calling the Flames demise. I can probably accurately name 25 teams that won't win a damn thing this year.

That is an interesting way to curb the discussion. When discussing the Flames failures and consistent level of mediocrity, the old only 1 team wins argument. I think vibes from me and many others would be vastly different if their was some upward trajectory being displayed, you know progression to building something significant. Maybe winning a round or two in the playoffs, or core players elevating their game during intense playoff style hockey. I really don't want to be calling out their demise, the spring of 2004 was some of the best times of my life, it would be amazing to see the organization get to that point again and maintain a consistent level of contending hockey over a stretch of 3, 4, 5 years. Its bad time to be a Flame fan, I'm not here on CP because I don't care and want the team to fail, i just offer up my opinion on what I see, whether thats positive or negative. Right now its tough to be positive. Hopefully that changes in the next few years.

But yes I certainly agree, Gio is not the worst captain in franchise history, hes been a great Flame. The organization and management should be held accountable for holding on to an asset way to long, but that is something they do often which is why they've been mediocre for so long.
