Scorp, can you give us some clarity on the schedule.

I looked last night and noticed they play 30 games. And their last game is on April 29 while the rest of the league and division play until like May 16 or something. And they play 9 of those 30 games against Manitoba, all on the road in Manitoba.

Is this all accurate? Just a byproduct of moving divisions so late?

That is all accurate. Weird sked for sure.

Or is he more of a Rob Schremp? I think he is going to be a good NHL'er, but until he shows it, there will always be people who doubt him - and I hope that Seattle does.

At any rate, barring moves, it makes it difficult to pass up on any of Calgary's Top 4 D - one will be made available for sure, barring a move there between now and the expansion draft.

If I am Seattle, I have a tough time picking a relative unknown quantity in Phillips - awesome skill, but tiny - versus a known quantity with solid value in what is probably going to be either Giordano or Tanev. If I am Seattle, I am going to go for value here, and I feel confident either defencemen are worth a 1st + around the league.

It is a completely different conversation if Phillips gets NHL time and starts excelling. For as long as he is in the AHL, Seattle will have a tougher time properly scouting him and projecting his abilities in the NHL, leaving a lot of room for doubts and errors.

However, at the end of the day, the Flames #1 priority should be to put the best team on the ice today and every day that they can, and they are going to lose an important player this time around no matter what happens, unless they want to give up value in a deal.

This is absolutely right. If Philips remains untested at the NHL level, it’s hard to believe he gets selected ahead of Taney or Gio.

The Heat have a break in their schedule from April 7 - 13. Return from a Laval game on April 6. Next game is at home against Mark Kastelic and Belleville.

Flames host the Canucks April 8 and April 10. Perhaps Matty Ice will get a cup of coffee?

Thanks for all your excellent coverage Scorp.

Both he and Debrincat are 5’7” but Phillips is listed as 145 lbs. while ‘Cat is 165 lbs. on HockeyDB.

I’ve said it before and I say it again. I don’t give a damn how tiny he is, I believe Philips can contribute on the big club. Right now.
