If you ask me, the Back Burner portion of the forum should be dissolved / merged into this part of the forum anyways. Prospects are a huge part of the Calgary Flames.

Personally I like to be able to go directly to the prospect news instead of sifting through other unrelated or even useless threads sometimes.

I hope he sticks in the AHL for the remainder of the season and stays off Seattle's radar...Not that he's a shoo-in to deliver at the NHL level, but...still.

If he leads the AHL in scoring, he won't stay off Seattle's radar.

Call him up and see if his NHL play is worth protecting.

Honest question, was any player taken in the Vegas expansion draft who had never played an NHL game?

Nosek had only played 17 games in Detroit and Leipsic had only played 6 for the Leafs

The answer is no, but Vegas had a particular strategy and Seattle may decide to go on a longer building process.

I don't doubt that Seatlle is scouting the AHL, and I am sure they are looking at Phillips. However, it is still going to be risk by them if they take him without any NHL games under his belt. There have always been very talented players in the lower leagues that haven't panned out - even when they are more average-sized. Is Phillips a sure-fire top 6 that they can bank on? Or is he more of a Rob Schremp? I think he is going to be a good NHL'er, but until he shows it, there will always be people who doubt him - and I hope that Seattle does.

At any rate, barring moves, it makes it difficult to pass up on any of Calgary's Top 4 D - one will be made available for sure, barring a move there between now and the expansion draft.

If I am Seattle, I have a tough time picking a relative unknown quantity in Phillips - awesome skill, but tiny - versus a known quantity with solid value in what is probably going to be either Giordano or Tanev. If I am Seattle, I am going to go for value here, and I feel confident either defencemen are worth a 1st + around the league.

It is a completely different conversation if Phillips gets NHL time and starts excelling. For as long as he is in the AHL, Seattle will have a tougher time properly scouting him and projecting his abilities in the NHL, leaving a lot of room for doubts and errors.

However, at the end of the day, the Flames #1 priority should be to put the best team on the ice today and every day that they can, and they are going to lose an important player this time around no matter what happens, unless they want to give up value in a deal.

Pospisil just murdered Perfetti.

Perfetti was bent down and reaching to poke the puck and Pospisil came across, as Perfetti stood up it looked like shoulder to the head.

Maybe running out of gas on a long, long road trip? Didn't look like the Heat had much jump today.

I only watch the last of the 2nd and most of the third, the teams look evenly matched. The Heat were dangerous, just not shooting as much.

High danger chances at evens had to have been pretty close.

I thought the Heat were pretty bad in the third period. Only three shots.

A stinker after a long stretch of great performances is generally par for course.

When do they play next? Would be interesting to see how they bounce back
