I've been saying for a while that they look out of shape - playing slow, and no practice days.

Tonight, I think they were exhausted in the 3rd.

Darryl will have something to say about that

Brodie is doing fine in Toronto I think

The point swing you all are talking about is overblown as there will be plenty of time to swing these 4 point games the other way once Sutter straightens it out.

Team is hard to support. I hope Sutter can pull a Mulan here.

I hope they bench at least 6 players from tonight for tomorrow's game. I mean they looked gassed after the 1st.

We have been talking about that since 2019

You need to put the Oil to bed before 40 mins (3+ goal lead) otherwise they're going to play McDrai literally over half the 3rd period.

I thought CGY played pretty well into the second period but a little into the second they stopped making plays and just flipped the puck down the ice.

A concern going in to Darryl era is are they going to go into defensive shells once they get up? Especially this game when they knew Darryl would be watching did they want to show they could be smart defensively? Playing in the opponent end is a great way to play.

I liked a lot of what I saw in the first. Hartley had them doing mountain climbers so they would be fit for third periods and take advantage of the altitude in CGY so I didn't like what kind of looked like fatigue after the first - but with this schedule maybe they are really tired??

Markstrom was good IMO in getting back into action and the d were pretty good in their end and breaking out up ice.

Forwards need to do more with offensive zone - be cleaner and make life harder on the goalie (not just traffic but getting the goalie moving). Smith helped EDM with his puck handling and that will impact a forecheck.

I'm hoping to see more improvement for OTT next game.

For anyone thinking this was simply a coaching issue they are sorely wrong. Ward sucked ass no question and he had to go, but the players on this team are not very good. Sutter will get more out of them than Ward but these guys simply aren’t good enough. They are not fast enough, big enough, talented enough, or hard working enough. I don’t see Sutter saving this sad sack collection of players.

Big game, tight checking. It’s an automatic no-show for monahan/gaudreau/tkachuk/lindholm/backlund.

These guys aren’t alpha NHLers. But it’s the best our gm can muster.

There's still time to get a Sutterbot behind the bench tomorrow.

Credit for the flames playing their hardest period of the season. But , alas, losers are losers.
Look at you. Right back at it. What are you going to do when they start winning?

It's got to be hard to play with Gaudreau on your wing. If the puck is up for grabs on his side of the ice it's a guaranteed loss.

He must have had five times tonight where instead if trying to get the puck he just waved at it with one had on his stick. He didn't even pretend there would be a puck battle.

On the bright side I thought the effort was way better. Flames got beat by McDavid and to a lesser extent Smith.

Markstrom really needs to have that third goal. Shots from outside the dots need to be saved.
