Wow. Woke up to this crazy news. Suppose the boys new about this before the game last night? Would be an explanation for the jump.

Yeah. This truly looks like this was an ownership move rather than from Treliving initiation. There's been rumour for a while (years?) that ownership has a strong relationship with Sutter still, and one of them wanted him to return as coach during one of the previous head coaching vacancies. I'm thinking that was the one that led to Peters.

I like it. He was a way better coach than he was a GM. Old school guy, so if guys thought Hartley was a tough coach, they better buckle up. Johnny and Monny about to have some hard days. Wonder if Bennett stays now? He is a Sutter type player, and if he was butting heads with Ward, I think will retract the ask to leave.
I'm excited. Should be interesting.

I remember right when he came in mid season he said the Flames needed to be bigger (true) but he also wanted faster, which was also true. So he’s not against speed, which I think is the name of the game in 2021. In fact, he brought in 5’11” Langcow and 6’1” but skinny Huselius as his first offseason moves after the 04 run. Of course, he did bring in McCarty too.
It’s about being 100 percent mentally and emotionally ready , optimum compete levels and work ethic with Sutter.

You excel at those things or life is miserable.

The big thing is that it brings hope.

And the simple fact of the matter is that teh North division isn't very good. The Leafs are at the top, but it's not like they are world beaters, and some kind of playoff juggernaut. They are very beatable.

After that, The Jets, Habs, and Oilers (lol) are all about equal, and none are better than the Flames.

We have, arguably, the best goalie in the division. And we have depth (despite what they have shown so far). And now they have a coach that knows what it takes to win.

Getting out of the division was always there as a possibility this year. And now it is a realistic goal!

This is fantastic.

I'm excited for a team that skates instead of passes backwards all the time!

Would you rather have Claude Julien? 60, was one of the highest-paid coaches in the NHL, earning $5 million per season. His contract ran through the 2021-22 season.

If Sutter doesn't get more than McLelland it is a huge home town discount.

This is the first proven NHL head coach we've had since Hartley, and Hartley was an out dated dinosaur who had to go to the KHL to get his next gig.

Sutter on the other hand has won two cups in the last decade.

I cannot see any way for this team to continue it's extremely inconsistent and "blah" ways with Sutter behind the bench.

If they still struggle to be any good, or even worse, still suck, then at least now (IMO) you know with 100% certainty that this roster needs massive changes made to it at the core level.

It was really nice just two different sexes and generations chatting about hockey.

Just told my daughter about Sutter being hired:

"Oh the old dude we met that morning, yeah he was cool"

When there is no leadership amongst the players, you need a general to take charge. Darryl is a general. It will either be glorious, or lead to the complete breakup of this current team. I am ok with both.

I hope Bennett takes this opportunity to with a fresh coach and runs with it. I'd hate to see him get traded.

So from what I've been hearing (fan960) he won't be behind the bench on Saturday?

It’s not just Iginla and Kipper and journeymen this time (exceptions to Conroy and Regehr).

Iginla > Gaudreau
Kipper > Markstrom

‘04 roster << ‘21 roster

It’s time to go on a run again, and we are more than capable of winning a couple of rounds against Canadian teams.

Come on Darryl. With the way the Lightning are playing, give us our ‘04 rematch.

So now that we have brought back Darryl and the Blasty Jerseys... DOes this mean Theo is getting 14 in the rafters?

Feels about right given the nostalgia kick the team is on
