How long will it take this team to start playing with a no system?

Darryl brought in guys like Cammalleri.. Stralman.. Dawes.. Hagman.. Langkow.. he didn't hate small players. L.A. was a big team, but Darryl didn't build the Flames the same way L.A. was built.

I'm not surprised at all. Sure, we beat the bottom feeder Sens a couple of times. But this team has been hot garbage for a while now. Change was desperately needed, and bringing in an experienced Cup winning coach was absolutely the right move if they want to try and save the season.

I wouldn't call at least 3/5 of them "head" coaches, not for the NHL anyhow.

Bennett is what he is. He’s barely an NHLer no matter who his coach is.

I think he will have to benefit. Every player will benefit. I have said many times Sutter is a top 5 coach in the league. Will they like it? Will Sutter like them? That’s another story.
I’m interested to see what Sutter’s schemes are like after a couple years away, with time to watch and think about the game. He’s a smart smart guy.
His kid took his special needs class in the classroom beside my kid’s room in Springbank, so I’d see him sometimes. The same guy - few words.

If you’re looking for a reason for the Kings players’ resiliency, look no further than Sutter and his tactics. He has created a mental strength among his players that has gone beyond their physical abilities and led to their apparent nine lives this spring. They believe anything is possible. They've been coached to.
Everything Sutter does has a purpose, from his tension-filled press conferences—with answers ranging from indifferent to offensive depending on who asks them and how they’re posed—to his more casual scrums with familiar reporters.
He operates under the idea that everything he says will be read by his players, so he’s as calculated as they come with his answers and efforts to steer the storylines.
When a player needs a bit of a boost, he’s there to pump his tires.
If a player is getting too much individual attention, his tendency is to play it down.
|
Quote:
He shelters his players from outside influences and does everything he can do to make sure the attention isn’t on his guys—whether it’s positive or negative—and that the spotlight instead lands on his opponents. It’s just another distraction that could get in the way of the quest for the Cup.
While Rangers coach Alain Vigneault was comfortable allowing CBC cameras in his dressing room before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final—even showing his pregame address to the players to be filmed—Sutter refused. It’s the Los Angeles Kings against the world. Nobody other than those in the inner circle have the privilege of taking part in that private ritual.
In a brief moment of honesty recently, Sutter succinctly defined his philosophy for Curtis Zupke of NHL.com: "In a locker room (there's) 25 men and you don't let anybody in. There's a circle there. You're on the island with them. Don't let anybody on the island."
|
Quote:
Veteran Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell also spoke to Zupke of Sutter’s strengths without giving too much away:He's understands the game very well as a coach. I've played a while now with a few different coaches, but I think his strength is as master motivator. He's a really good motivator. He'll push the buttons necessary to make sure people are realizing the significance of the moment or the time. That's what he does best.

I'm so excited.

A couple of years ago, Sutter was said with the Flames current groups of players, Backlund should centering the 3rd line as an elite shutdown centre; but Backlund prefers to be higher up and known for his scoring ability.

Still pinching myself that this is even real.
We have a real coach and we have an elite goalie.
Tkachuk is our Neimenen.
Lucic is our Oliwa.
Who is our Donovan?
Come on boys. 2004 all over again please!

Yeah, exactly this.
This is going to be huge for every player on this team. Some of these players have played their entire NHL careers without a quality NHL coach. They now have an elite one.
Elite coaches make players better. This is absolutely huge for the leadership group as well because Darryl is a leader. Darryl will lead this team.
