A. He’s not cheap.
B. It’s a 3 season deal including this one.

well why not? with all apologies to Winnipeg, this is a one team division right now (one elite team), odds are never going to be better. Gaudreau may even rise to the occasion- easy to count him out but he didn't get this far without something in his spine. we'll see...at worst its more of the same

It’ll be interesting to see who benefits. You’d think Lucic, Mangiapane, Dube, Backlund, Tanev, Gio, Ryan are all Sutter types. Probably Andersson, and Monahan maybe, just from his seeming to take instructions to be more physical this year.
Tkachuk I don’t know. Sutter might like him as a disturber - like a Neimenen. Then again, I’m not sure he likes the over the top stuff. Johnny I could see having a rough go.
|
Johnny will be fine.
Darryl doesn’t need his skill guys to play physical, just work hard.
As a GM he brought in Huselius and Tanguay, also had Gaborik in LA and liked him.

Oh wow. I wonder if this came from higher up. The last time the Flames hired Darryl Sutter, he usurped the GM. Treliving may have just hired his replacement.
Pretty shocking. It sounded like not that long ago Sutter said he was done.

Did Lucic overlap with Sutter’s tenure in LA? Him and Gio would be the current players who have played for him, right?

If there's one thing Sutter has been in his coaching career it's adaptable. He moved from being a pretty merciless and tough but successful coach in the dead puck era to a more understanding but still demanding 2x cup winning coach in the 2010s for this modern generation of player. I fully believe he can get the most out of this group. I just don't think this group is good enough as it sits and we need a huge trade this summer.
Whatever we do though, in the long run don't name him GM.

Props to ownership for being willing to pay 3 coaches, including a big name one like Sutter on a 3 year deal, during a pandemic.
Didn't think they had it in them.

Regardless of what happens, it will be fascinating how different players respond under Sutter.
Tkachuk, Bennett if he stays, Lucic, Razzy, Dube
On the flip side, Gaudreau and Monahan?
