That would be a message.
Why would you sit Lucic? The Flames have 8 goals in their last 6 games and he has 2 of them. Literally a quarter of the teams goals. He also is one of like 4 guys that gives it his all every shift. I’d sit Monahan well before Lucic at this point. It’s that bad right now.

The team doesn't need to be nuked. It needs to be tweaked. And it needs a real coach for once. Getting a new coach in is a way better option that what Freidman suggested.

Agreed. Friedman is sniffing his own farts.

You fire the coach and see if you can't shock the team into a reset.

I haven't compared via pvr but first blush it was stylistically different but I'm no coach. Maybe I'm totally wrong but it looked like they tried to be more offensive.

It appears they are in games when they play tight. DAL last year made a similar change.

I'm for whatever gets them wins or points at this stage. Lock it down at least until you get some traction.
Yes. But I thought their breakouts were better and quicker against Toronto. Yesterday they were skating in mud. They also attacked the net better in the first Toronto game.

He's mailed it man.
What a stupid take. Giordano isn’t mailing it in. He’s 37 years old and it’s caught up with him. You don’t take away the C for that. It was a mistake when they did it to Thornton and it would be a mistake here. You think Ward doesn’t have the team’s respect now? Try that. I don’t think any player would accept the C if they tried that.

Winning ugly is better than losing period. Season is not lost with the head to heads. Whatever style gets you wins and points, buy into it 100%. Stabilize game (5v5, special teams), reel in teams ahead day by day. At the end of the day it's a win or loss regardless of how ugly so they should just drop last night. Grit.

Big challenge but those are the best.

Yeah, Lucic's been great with the momentum changing hits, game changing fisticuffs, awesome skating and overall excellent skills.

You sit him to show that everyone is accountable/responsible, no free passes just because you scored a couple goals. Bennett has scored 2 of those goals also yet the majority on this board don't want him just scratched but gone.

If Lucic is a leader/respected vet, then you need to give him a bit of a slap too.

Very true.
Even though you cannot make excuses for this team's play at this point, if last night was a one-off you wouldn't think that much of it. Any team can win on any night in the NHL, and playing their 5th in 7 nights with backup goalie playing his 3rd in 4 (awful personnel decision BTW) you could forgive them the loss if they were 12-4 and had a history of playing a consistent competitive game.

As it stands it is just more of the same and clearly not good enough.

People want him gone because he requested a trade and clearly doesn’t want to be here. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable position to take.

Whelp, it's 10:21am and the coach hasn't been fired.

Brad Treliving, the King of in-season inactivity.

I don’t think starting Zag was much of an option and it would have been just cruel.

One could complain about overusing Markstrom, though I’ve argued he had a lengthy break and Rittich’s first two starts which were on schedule were not confidence inducing. And Markstrom’s injury likely wasn’t from overplaying - I think it was his two collisions or maybe the scrum in his last game.

No manager could watch the last 2 weeks and not be motivated to fire his coach.

It's pretty clear his hands are tied, whether it be for financial reasons or because the owners aren't allowing him to make that move (perhaps because he will be ousted in the off-season).

This is probably how the rest of the season will play out.

Ah yes, Tortorella who has accomplished nothing in the last decade and keeps driving players away from organizations.

Would be an excellent add to an organization that already struggles to bring big names in.

Lucic, unbelievably, is way way down the list of guys that are a problem for this team on ice. He has done what is asked of him for the majority of the season. Really odd suggestion.

Is there documentation / confirmation from Flames or Bennett camps that there was a trade request? Please provide

What was reported, as far as I understand, was that Friedman called the agent and the agent answered Friedman’s question about given his situation if he would be open to a change of scenery.

That doesn’t actually confirm that he doesn’t want to be here (maybe wanted more stability, increased role, better opportunity than the minimum wage scrubs they picked up), or that he asked for a trade (which he seemingly hadn’t at that point, if the organization was truly blindsided by the report) .

Why would starting Zag be cruel? Goalies are ready, they get thrown in all the time. Just tell him a day in advance. Edmonton started Stuart Skinner, and won!

Could we hire him as the PR rep for post-game interviews at least?
