He had benched Dube as I remembered, did he bench Mangiapane this game? I don't remember seeing him much in the third. I saw Leivo and Frosse a lot.

Quite an amazing phenomena.
The Coaches make mistakes...not even close to the number the players make.

Dude we get it Geoff Ward can do no wrong. But it’s a results based league, can’t trade all the players. Bring in a experienced coach and let’s evaluate the remainder of the season.

Well, I’m not defending the benching or playing Froese in the last 2 or 3 minutes of a 2-1 game because that’s just ... no good. But Bennett, like so many others, needs to play much better.

Seems like the coaching problem will just solve itself in the next couple months.

Not gonna jump on the fire Ward bandwagon, but man I hate his post-game media conferences. He seems arrogant and closed off. Peters, Gulutzan, and Hartley were far more forthcoming. Ward needs to realize he’s speaking to the fans through the media. The media is not the audience.

Blaming that play on coaching seems like a big stretch.
If the faceoff was a clean win, it's a nothing play. Likewise if it barely pops out then it's an easy pickup by Gaudreau.
Instead it's a 50/50 play and both Gaudreau and Gio seemed to freeze for a split-second. It happens. Geoff Ward can't control the physics of the puck from the bench unfortunately.
|
Ya maybe that’s true but I think the bigger problem is the passiveness of that play just captures the team right now. I would much rather see both guys go towards the puck and be aggressive with 45 seconds left and goalie out than both guys hesitate. There is 0 instinct on this team right now and no one is thinking the game at even a mediocre level

Reminds me of one of my favourite coach quotes:

I barely recognized him.
Very happy for Rittich. He had a great game.

Ward really looks like he is drowning as a head coach. Treliving needs to decide if keeping Ward is worth his job because this team is going nowhere with him.
Rittich looked good again. I'm happy for him about that because Ward killed his confidence in the bubble and he seems like a passionate dude.

Another gutless start, nobody crashing the crease, breakout is a turnover machine, rinse, repeat.

All this talk about the Oilers depth scoring
2-1 game
Their first line had a goal and the Flames basically scored on themselves
