The scotch is helping me embrace the rather overall awfulness of this team.

We've got a first time GM into his 7th year, he's won nothing at the NHL level and the team is wandering endlessly in mediocrity.

We've got a career assistant coach getting promoted to a head coaching position when he didn't earn it during his almost year long interim status, but we decided not to interview anyone else...

We've got an aged captain on his way down, FOUR AHL forwards dressed (Nordstrom, Leivo, Ritchie, Froese).

Amazing what fandom can do for a fella. I thought this team would be good, but they just aren't...so removing the expectation/hope of being a good team is rather freeing. Only chance we stand is if we overwhelmingly outwork the opposition on a nightly basis.

Watched the first on a delay. I have two comments.

First, can you imagine how good this team could be if they were allowed to play the first ten minutes like all the other teams? Just seems like an unfair handicap that they're not allowed to start playing until ten minutes after puck drop. Anyone know why that rule was instituted?

Second, I wasn't really jumping on the "fire Ward" bandwagon, but seriously, it's 4 on 4 and you put Gaudreau out with... Byron Froese?! NO ONE WOULD DO THIS.

All I know is he once wore Flames swag, and he tried to force his way out of the Oilers org last year. He's proving himself even though the team treated him shart and his handling and development was piss poor, and he had the audacity to ask for one of their sacred numbers. I don't see him as your typical POS Oiler. I hope he finds a way out, because he deserves better.

I sincerely hope people around the organization read CP (given the Loubardias reveal) because the grilling of Ward has been fully warranted lately.

Strawberry with Gaudreau isn't something you do unless you're down by a dozen goals and you're punishing your top guys.

THAT said, Froese got the puck deep and wasn't useless there.
