Nothing Eichel has ever said has led me to believe he has a stated preference for a specific Market (i.e. a big american city.) All he has said is that he wants the best chance to compete and win. If we roll out the carpet for him, he'll have a pretty good young D core and a premier goalie locked up to look at for a contending window, and likely at least two of Johnny-Mony-Tkachuk-Lindy up front to help him out.
I don't understand the negativity around the concept. He's said nothing to this effect. It's just typical flames fan pessimism. News flash: Calgary is a reasonably desirable market, as we see time and time again in free agency.

Eichel likes to score on the oilers. Sign him now.

Based on the weather, I don't think it's that time of year.
Eichel still has 5 years left (after this year). Most long time Flames warm up to the city eventually.

Calgary would likely have to gut some of the roster to get him. Or the asset base that would be otherwise used to improve the roster. Either way - I don't know why he would think he would have a better chance of winning here.
We can talk ourselves into it, but at best, Calgary is a middle of the road team talent wise.
He'll want to go somewhere where he feels there is a good depth of talent already there that he can put over the top.

With his contract those teams generally can’t afford to fit him in under the salary cap.

I don’t really like that forward group but gets the Flames Eichel. Keeping Johnny becomes key here.

That is awful. Skinner makes $9 for 6 more years, he currently has ONE assist. That was one of the worse signings in history the day it was signed. Ryan is UFA at the end of this season, and Benett RFA.

Ew. You won’t be able to ever assemble a good team with Skinner and Lucic taking a great chunk of your cap. Gaudreau extension? Damn hard with Skinner taking all of his money.
Go for Okposo instead. We’ll just have a very expensive 4th line of Lucic - Gawdin - Okposo.

The Flames are at the cap. Those teams would be sending out players to create the room just as the Flames would need to do.

Do people realize that the Sabres are consistently missing the playoffs WITH Eichel?
Make this trade, and the Flames are worse than Buffalo is right now.
And I really like Eichel.

I think any package that includes Tkachuk is extremely attractive, and competes with any offer NY or Chicago, etc could offer.

Yeah keep Johnny if you can land Eichel I want them playing together
taking Skinner might be the only way they would actually trade him (not saying its a good idea)

I think you missed the point, which was that Eichel can’t carry a team all by himself.
St.Louis won because they didn’t trade Tarasenko and Schenn to get O’Reilly.

I think Eichel and Tkachuk with Mangiapane and Lindholm would be a good start to change over.

If Eichel wants out Buffalo is in as bad a situation as any team in the league. They could probably sell off all there UFA's this year and have a loaded prospect pool and be looking very good next year but Eichel would probably hold out if they did. I just don't see how they can fix this team without being patient. $15 mil wasted in Skinner and Okposo and Skinner having 6 more years at $9 mil is impossible to fix. If they can't package Eichel to a team that takes 1 of Skinner or Okposo then they might as well rebuild.
If they added Tkachuk and Monahan for Eichel they might be ok for 1 year then Tkachuk gets $9 mil and Dahlin gets a raise and half their team is a UFA. Even with Monahan and Tkachuk they aren't good enough next season.
They need to trade Eichel draft day to a team loaded in prospects and good young players looking to turn the corner and has a high end pick in the draft.
The Rangers are probably the most likely team to get it done.
#1 Rangers 21, #1 Rangers 22 Kakko and Deangelo

You’d be crazy not to go all in for Eichel IMO. I don’t know if it’s overly realistic but you gotta at least put a solid offer forward.

I agree but realistically the Flames don't have the assets in prospects to make a deal. If I'm Buffalo no way I trade him and keep skinner or okposo unless I'm getting loaded up with high end prospects if they make a move irs win now or build around dahlin cozens and whoever they get in return for eichel. Tkachuk would be a great add for them but if the Flames want to get it done they either bail them out of skinner or okposo contracts or add a ton in prospects
Not sure we have the depth at prospect to do it
Maybe if we sold on Gio and Backlund and drove up our first this year.
Gaudreau doesn't have enough years left on deal
Tkachuk first this draft and zary or pelletier
Not sure but I think rangers could blow that package away

The Coyotes are scratching Barrett Hayton again. He was the 5th overall pick in 2018 and Chayka reached a bit to get him. Real good for Canada as captain at the 2019 WJC.
Wonder if he could be had.
