With Tkachuk, they could let Hall walk in the off season then sign Hopkins, Stastny, Laughton, or someone like that. Trocheck, Couturier and Kadri could potentially be 2022 UFAs.
I'm guessing Bennett and/or Ryan would be offered to provide a bit of center depth.
Probably some like Tkachuk + Bennett + 2021 1st + Pelletier/Zary/2022 1st
Eichel/Monahan/Backlund as the centers would be great. Then Lindholm could play RW.
I could see the Sabres wanting Dube and Mangiapane. That's where things get tough.

I could see Eichel being just THRILLED to be going to a small market in Canada. He must have some sort of NTC....

His NMC doesn't kick in until the 2022-23 season. He is SOL until then.

I actually think he would love to play in a market obsessed with hockey like a Canadian franchise. That being said unless he demands a trade and threatens to sit out the Sabres would have to be crazy to move him.

I remember hearing somewhere that in his draft year, Eichel believed he was in the same tier as McDavid... I could see him liking the chance to go head to head with McDavid on a regular basis. And while Calgary may be a small market relative to NY, he'd be hard pressed to find a more passionate fanbase anywhere south of the border. Another thing in our favour is that IF Buffalo were to trade him, they'd almost certainly want to move him out of conference.
So while its unlikely Calgary could land Eichel, its not entirely crazy to consider

I dunno.

I am no expert in Flying Spaghetti Monster theology, but I am fairly sure it is blasphemous to speak of higher deities than the Almighty Flying Spaghetti Monster. You are going to Flying Spaghetti Hell for that sin.

Eichel's biggest beef is he wants to have a chance to win. I don't know that Calgary realistically can offer that more than Buffalo based on histories of both franchises.
If that's his biggest beef.

Everybody’s favourite , Eklund stating flames will make a play for hall at deadline. Can’t see how they would fit him in cap wise but worth a chuckle .

Well, Calgary has at least made the POs a few times in the last 10 years.

If they keep hammering the taxi squad usage and if Buffalo retains 50%, it's not far off from being possible. Would still have to send someone back though (Ryan going the other way helps it fit cap-wise)

Yeah, Buffalo will be looking for prospects/picks and would have to take salary.
Better be sure Hall will re-sign though.

If a star player really, really wants to win a Stanley Cup you can argue that he would be best served avoiding all the Canadian teams seeing it's getting close to 30 years since a Canadian team has won it. I suppose you could play the odds that a Canadian team is due but really the Leafs look like the only Canadian club that has a realistic chance and they are tapped out when it comes to adding star players.

It's really sad for the game of hockey that players like Eichel and McDavid are on the franchises they're on

Taking a while to get to 5000

I've said this before but I think its worth repeating. You don't spend a bunch of assets to get Eichel out of Buffalo just to recreate Buffalo for him here.
As for Hall, 2 things. First, I kind of hope he does come here finally so we can stop imagining it and see if he's the same player here that he is everywhere else except for one season in NJ. Second, they were discussing the potential for him to be moved on NHL Network radio and while there was no concrete rumor or news they were of the opinion that he'll likely be on the move sooner rather than later as the Sabres are likely impacting how much he could make on his next deal being this was a 1 year "bet on yourself" contract and its not working out.

How many already competing clubs can fit Eichel into their structure? Once you exclude the higher end teams like Tampa and Colorado, a team like Calgary might not be a bad option.
I don't see the Sabres trading Eichel though.

He has a $10 million cap hit and the Flames are right up against the cap.
If Tkachuk was the main piece going over, we would need to convince them to take Ryan or something. That would probably cost another high pick or good prospect.

Don’t really want Hall unless one of our top 6 LW’s (Gaudreau/Tkachuk) can convert over to RW. We have a log jam at LW, need a RWer. Plus, we can sign Hall next season if he’s available.
