If shuffling those chairs is the difference between finding a buoyant door to freeze to death on or smashing into a propeller from 82 feet, I’m in.

Byron is 31 and makes $3.4m for 2 more years after this one. If he was cheap, sure, all day.

Ugh Paul Byron is only worth signing if you convince Derek Ryan to retire to Russia with his buddy

One was seen as heroic, the other was the joke of the movie.
Although I had no idea Byrons contract was up there. Unless they want Ryan that isn’t going to work at all.

We need to find a way to push this team higher in the standings, because we are perfectly capable of doing so. It’s clear we need another offensive forward to stack the current group we have. Rakell of the Ducks is the clear favorite for me because of his extra year on a sweetheart deal. Bonus that he is a goal scorer.
Rakell (50%) + R. Miller for Rittich + 2021 1st + Gawdin/Phillips
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Rakell/Mangiapane
Gaudreau - Monahan - Simon/Mangiapane
Mangiapane - Backlund - Ryan
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Nordstrom, Leivo (Leivo and Simon can switch off, Nordstrom can too playing with Backs and Ryan and Mangiapane moved up).
Gio - Andersson
Hanifin - Tanev
Nesterov/Mackey - Valimaki
Mackey/Nesterov
Markstrom
Miller
I feel more comfortable with Miller as backup stepping in if an injury came to Markstrom than Rittich. Miller has intentions of staying in Cali, but this can be his final run at a cup (assuming we make it), and then he can just retire in Cali. Plus, we need to get rid of Rittich’s cap to grab Rakell, who would be under 1.9m for next year’s playoff run too. Rakell at 50% would be advantageous for a team like us that can use the extra cap space to re-sign some players and also bolster the lineup more.
Mangiapane becomes the Swiss Army knife playing on either one of the top 3 lines because he can. He’s proven he can have chemistry with anyone because of his motor and resiliency.
The Ducks get a good prospect and a 1st to continue their rebuild, one that should be ending in a couple of years. They could even flip Rittich to a team that is struggling with goalie injuries and grab another pick/prospect with him.
I know some might scoff at Gawdin or Phillips getting traded, but we have to give to get. Maybe a different prospect could be added, but I added one of these guys to convince Anaheim to take this deal. Was going to add Kylington but I think they have enough waiver/taxi squad D and could use an up-and-coming forward prospect more.
Thoughts?

While not the deal I would make (dislike me some Ryan Miller) I do appreciate that you're looking at bolstering the top 6, securing a more reliable back up goalie and are willing to spend draft capital in what is really an unknown / crap shoot draft coming up given the circumstances.
Also, given that Treliving could be looking at a dismissal if the season goes south along with his willingness to spend picks at the deadline none of this ultimately seems beyond reason.

The key is getting Rakell at a sliver under 1.9m for this AND next season. It’d be a great acquisition whether or not we can afford to keep Rakell or lose him because of extensions and/or signings elsewhere. 2022 will arguably be Calgary’s biggest offseason.

Ducks essentially pay $2M for a 1st round pick and cap certainty with Rakell being (half) off the books and Rittich could be retained or cut free as would any prospect that went over too.
Again, I like it but not sure the Ducks would want to retain regardless of the pick.

Duhatchek in the Athletic a week or so back suggested that Bennett's value at the deadline should be a 1st rounder, in line with the price Tampa paid for Goodrow and Coleman, especially given that this draft is a crapshoot due to no junior action...

If you want the Ducks to retain cap you are going to have to upgrade the prospect. Gawdin and Phillips really don't have much if any trade value. Rittich has no value to the Ducks and is really only in the trade for cap reasons. I also suspect that Miller would just retire as opposed to leaving California.
I think Bennett would be part of the package going to Anaheim. Anaheim also has no cap space to retain salary. So it would have to be cap for cap trade.
Bennett, Leivo, and a 1st for Rakell.
Still not sure that gets it done.

Well then you would have to add a 1st to the Ducks side and then keep lowering the pick till they accept, to make sure you get the best deal.

nice! I always end up draining Anaheim's draft picks because they are first alphabetically and also I hate them

I think that we should hang onto Bennett until the deadline and then work out a trade for Hall.

Fixed.
I see the Sabres are hanging around near the bottom of their division again.
Who do I need to start worshiping to have Eichel request a trade to Calgary because.....because....he dreams of living near the rockies?
I dunno.
Make it happen oh god of the flying spaghetti monster, make it happen.

Would we all be comfortable sending a package that included Tkachuk in a package to nab Eichel? That's where it would start, I would guess.....
I would think they would also like a C back to fill Eichel's position.

I'd give up Tkachuk, 2 first-round picks and my left testicle for Eichel to be a Flame.
