My reading is fine. I was directly challenging your notion that there isn't anything deeply concerning about this team. I would argue that there absolutely is: the coaching stinks.
Like I said in the GT... it's not the fact that they lost, it's the way they lost...
This team loses by 6 or 7 goals tonight if not for Markstrom's heroics.

There has to be something up with Tkachuk. He does not make any plays anywhere - there was one rush where the puck came to him and he stopped skating and just reached and missed it. He has no explosion and he just quickly gets rid of the puck to no one. If he's playing through something that's just going to nag all year they need to figure out how to make him effective - like play him on the right side.
Has his line looked dangerous? I think Lindholm is playing ok-fine but they are not consistently dangerous despite point totals.
As bad as they played they had some good looks (Monahan x2, Mangiapane, Vali, Gaudreau etc.) that could have got lead or later tie the game. Obviously that is Markstrom.
A big issue is they can't seem to play simple, hard, fast hockey and stay connected while making the right decisions with the puck. They mentally will not commit to this and don't demand it from their team mates. They don't hold each other accountable to this and it is a pattern.
The get passive and watch and wait for someone else on the team to do something (not Mangiapane though - he is on the puck). The passing is weak and you get turnovers in terrible areas. The timing gets off and they look disjointed and slow.
Not mentally ready and they just throw pucks away.
They refuse to play simple and they can't read off each other. That is the hallmark of their weak play and unfortunately since they haven't played a strong 60 minutes that ugliness is what's been consistent. Perhaps 2 games where it's good but most of their periods have been disjointed, slow and mentally unprepared.
Not everyone bad but key big minute guys.

Why, he would have to bench the whole team.

I love Dube though, his DNA is different from a lot of this roster.

Win and no mention of coaching
Loss and its only the coaches fault?

I was finding it almost hilarious when we were tied, picturing how much Canucksland going to melt down when they somehow lose this game. But once we were behind, it was straight disgusting.
One team looked like it was a matinee game, the other like they were told they'd all be fired if they lost. Unreal

I don’t dispute there is room for improvement
But this game was so predictable. Canucks coming in 0-6, Flames coming in 3-0, the Canucks have a team bonding thing, the whole thing was predictable
Markstrom is a genius at tending which is great but Backlund gets hurt and that is a bloody huge loss.
Team loses a game in which the other team had unsustainable push
Even great teams with great coaches lost games like this
It happens and although things aren’t perfect this game isn’t the one people should watch and hold hands and drive their convertibles into a canyon

We are too soft a team mentaly.

Maybe we should be blaming the GM who brings in the players, if we can't blame the coaches? Players have to accept lots of the blame but job is it to change that if the players won't do it?

I missed the game tonight, but sounds like a doozy. Would it be safe to assume that bringing up Gawdin and Phillips to inject a little GAF at the bottom of the lineup might shame the rest of the team into skating a little faster?

Markstrom blames himself for allowing the third period goal.
Class act. Clearly the most blameless person on the team today but takes responsibility anyway.

I wouldn't mind to see our 3 highest paid forwards healthy scratched for a game just to send a message. I'm not saying that Ward or Leivo aren't issues but c'mon man...
Tkachuk + Gaudreau + Monahan + Backlund + Lucic + Giordano = $37,500,000
We're nowhere near being a cup contender if our hightest-paid skaters perform like they did tonight.

The only injection that might help is Kylington, because he likes to carry the puck contrary to the "stand around and pass to covered targets" system.
Which is probably also why we haven't seen him. Can't risk an elite and elusive skater carrying the puck out of our D zone

I did notice this a lot this year. Passing is all to stationary targets, and the 'move into the zone as a five man unit' strategy is fully in place. So slow and boring as a way to play.

Cross ice passes in their own zone are way too high also. Looks like my kids practice.

We didn't need tonight to know we aren't cup contenders with these players as our highest paid players.

Our elite goaltender, Mr Markstom deserves a better team in front of him. What an embarrassment.

Do you really think adding Kylington tonight (in place of whom in particular?) wins this game?

Listening to Overtime and Pat just mentioned that apparently the players only meeting was the leadership group of the team telling chucky he plays too hard and he can’t stir things up each and every night...
That is a huge red flag. If our team is actively telling teammates to not care then we as fans may as well not care.

Honestly, as the one place that can maybe make a true difference, this forum should think about starting a petition for a specific coach. Especially considering that Flames' management was reportedly turned off on a potential DeAngelo move after the immediate backlash they got, I think our voices could be heard that we're tired of these crap coaches we keep getting anchored with.
I for one, would happily welcome back Darryl Sutter. That guy knows how to win and how to get the most out of his players
