Off ice could mean mouthed off on the bench I imagine.

I suppose, but it is never used that way. Anything on the bench is in-game. Off-ice means not in-game (typically)

I guess? But that seems very odd to me. How often do players talk to the coaches during a game when they are taking a shift on the ice? "Off ice" clearly suggests an out-of-game situation, which makes no sense since he wasn't benched until the second.

Fantasy Time.
The Vancouver Canucks are in a bad way. Not just right now, but they look to be completely mismanaged and in all likelihood, it is going to get worse before it gets any better. It may take the firing of Benning and others for them to begin on what seems to be the inevitable stripped down to the studs rebuild. Anyone over the age of 25 is up for grabs.....(perhaps).
Bennett + 1st + picks/prospects for J.T. Miller? Would you do it?

Yes. I believe I have read about how he has changed his approach to be more of a players coach. Not all the way there but I think he has a good balance. after being fired every two years by a new team I think he realized something had to change or else his career was over so he softened himself a bit to the players but still comes across as that hard ass to the media. Perfect balance imo

Agreed. He has consistently been one of the best coaches in the league every year he has been a head coach. He pushes guys to be the best they can be seemingly without going over the line like Babcock or Peters and I would love to have him in Calgary.

really? I see Miller as what Sam Bennett should have been. He fits the profile of the top six forward I think the Flames would be interested in.

He's an older player, good, but older. I'd rather see a core shake up.trade. something around Boeser and Monahan.

Being a 34 year old myself, I agree, he isn't old. However when giving away a first round pick plus Sam plus prospects, I think people (myself included) want a younger talent coming back, to get more time, and cost control of said player.

I think the cost is too high. I like Miller, but am really not keen on moving premium assets for two years of his services.

Isn't he kind of pouting in Vancouver right now? Seems like kind of a volatile guy.

Boeser-Monahan is also a total loss for us. Not even worthy of entertaining that as the base of a trade.
I am interested in Miller. I was interested in Miller when TB traded him too. I am not sure I love the fit though. What we really, really need in a Bennett trade is a hard nosed Right shooting RW. Filip Forsberg? Rakkell? Kasperi Kapanen? Robert Thomas? Jarnkrok?
Side note and unlikely, but what about swinging for the fences on someone like Zibanejad? Bad start for him, 3 points in 12 games. Looks disinterested.

I've always been a supporter for Bennett and like a lot of posters wishes, I also hope he turns it around on the first line and decides this is where he wants to be. But if there's a trade around him, how about someone like Ho Sang from NYI?
Ho Sang is a RHS RW that can be deemed a true reclamation project. Always had the talent but his attitude and commitment to being a pro is holding him back.

This is the kind of ballsy trade I'd love to see, good suggestion!

well, fair enough. But I question Bennett's value on its own. You're likely not getting back much more than a bottom 6 F/pairing D straight up. you might be able to fish a 2nd out of someone at the deadline, but doubt that interests the Flames too much at this point. I bet they are looking to add to the line up, not subtract for futures. what is a first in 2021 worth? it's going to be a total crap shoot in a year that was already being discussed as underwhelming before the pandemic. The Flames want to compete.
Miller provides a physical presence with some skill and scoring touch. He's easily a top 6 forward on the Flames, and perhaps a great fit with SM&JG. It was well documented Treliving was in pursuit of Josh Anderson. Who else out there could fit that profile? Based on what we have heard, I believe the Flames would prioritizing a player such as Miller if he were to become available.

here's how I see it; we know Treliving covets a player with Millers profile, physical with scoring ability. I believe this is the piece he wants to partner with JG and SM and this is why he was hot on the heels of Josh Anderson.
Bennett has been, obviously, discussed to death four time over. Bottom line, he hasn't shown to be anything over than a middle six forward at best. If he ever gets to be a 20-20 guy, I would surprised. The 2021 draft has been known to be underwhelming. If the Flames end up in a draft spot below 20, I would think they have had a disappointing season. As for the added picks/prospects, I guess that's where I wonder if we're talking about an added 2nd? do we move another recent first?
I think there is good reason to believe the Flames are going to be aggressive in the short term. Treliving has made multiple attempts to add to the top six. With the current group and their contract status's, if you look at it as a snap shot today, they have two years to go for it.
anyway, just a few thoughts for discussion....
EDIT: Looks like he is signed for two more years beyond this one. For a guy who was over a point/game last year at $5.25, that's great value.

I'd love a chance to get Miller on the team, just not sure what it would actually cost to acquire. Johnny talked about how he loves having 5 Americans on the team in the recent Spittin Chicklets, certainly would only help him stay to acquire his good buddy JT.
He's been over a point per game player since arriving in Vancouver, and the Canucks gave decent assets to get him too. His value has only risen.

Zib apparently had COVID-19 before the season started, and it’s been a slow recovery for him. He’s not available.
