See. I am not sure I would want Laine over Johnny. The only real benefit to Laine is age. I also highly doubt he works well with Monahan. So you would have to completely restructure the team.

If anything I would rather have Torts come here.

If we are going to go for Laine it's an all in move. Need to keep Johnny.
I would be pitching Mango+Bennett+1st maybe... Probably not enough but it's a start.

Johnny-Monahan-Laine would be one of the top lines in the league, no doubt in my mind.

I don’t even think it is remotely close. It is also a bad move asset wise as I clearly think Laine has his eyes set on a Marner, Matthews, McDavid type contract that gets into the $10M+ range.

He is not worth the assets and not worth his contract ask. We don’t need to be giving up prime assets and cap space for a guy who can’t handle a little tough love and is known to sulk.

If Columbus was contemplating flipping Laine after less than 2 weeks of having him on their roster the amount of red flags is astonishing.

I wouldn't read too much into the benching. It's just Torts sending a message early, so it doesn't become a problem later.

Yeah this is being blown out of proportion because it's Torts. I'm sure the player and coach have moved on already. If it becomes a regular occurance then there may be a story but otherwise there's not much here.

Well, Laine is going to learn that he doesn't have to change his game as Columbus will just be forced to change their coach instead.

Torts was getting a lot of hate already for his SEEMINGLY mishandling of Dubois (which I don't think he did personally), and he seemed to be doing some PR work there bringing that up after the trade.

Laine is sitting there thinking: "Yep, Torts is on his way out." I think he is. Only way Torts coaches beyond this season is Columbus does really well. I think he is done in Columbus. Maybe it is just perception and nothing else to see here, but time will tell.

Ya Torts is on his last legs, Laine just needs to keep scoring goals.

The Jackets are having issues retaining talent, just shipped out their franchise center and got a high profile winger in return. And in a matter of 4 games he gets that treatment.
Its an awful look for a number of reasons.

Tortorella seems to be a bit of a blowhard on camera, but behind the scenes he's apparently a pretty nice guy, no?

A reverse Hartley, then?

I think his players like him because he sticks up for them. But there’s always guys who can’t be coached and I think he’d have no time for that.

I think if he likes you, you're golden. If he doesn't like you, your life is miserable.

Torts has gotten so much out of that team. If Columbus ever gets rid of him I hope we’re first in line.

Who mouths off to a brand new coach?

also, if it was an off-ice event, why did the benching start with 6 minutes left in the 2nd period?
